I was visiting my parents the other day and my father and I were driving around talking and it occurred to me that there are certain subjects that you can always return to.

For instance:

That (insert coach/executive) of (insert local sports team) doesnt know what he's doing. He should be (insert generic criticism of game management). And that (star player) is a prima donna.

Other topics include new shortcuts and alternate routes you can use when driving around your home city.

This got me thinking, are there any other generic conversations that fathers and sons have that feel comfortable and give the two generations a way to relate?

The Weather
The health of his dog
The traffic

That's the extent of our "safe" conversations

All of my conversations with my dad go like this:

Me: Father.

Him: Yes, son?

Me: I want to kill you.

any conversation is a safe conversation with my father... as a matter of fact he appreciates learning about the crazy stuff Americans do behind closed doors...

"Mom sure has a tight snatch for a woman her age, doesn't she?"

EDIT: I should probably actually read the threads before replying.

1. Golf
2. The kids
3. Food
4. The lawn
5. Old Movies

All in all, I have a much better relationship with my father now than I had in the past. And that makes me happy.

I had a really unsafe convo with my dad about why he left our family when I was a kid.

Fuck being safe and relating.

I put that fucker's life up for question.

I need to know why I am and where I came from.

blah blah blah
