Has anyone seen this show? This show makes me so angry.
I actually root for the japanese whalers. They should have thrown those 2 guys overboard or detained them until they return to port.
I think the captain/founder is an extremist-asshole and needs to be ignored.
Anyone else?
Discuss.

Definitely hate the "activists" more than the whalers. How bad is that.

Fishermen tend to carry guns to protect themselves and their spots. That goes double for lobster/crabbers defending their traps. Amazingly, some of the most prominent anti-gun New England politicians have never dared to limit the rights of fishermen to defend themselves and their livelihood.
As much as these guys are self righteous douches, Japanese fishing practices are some of the most if not the most abbhorrent on Earth.

The Japanese claim that they are killing hundreds of whales for "scientific research."
They make up data from the contents of the whale stomaches (http://archive.greenpeace.org/whales/iceland/Scientific.htm) and claim it's ecosystem management (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2007/05/03/EDGF4PJOJA1.DTL&type=politics).
Somehow the whale meat ends up being sold (http://www.seashepherd.org/news-and-media/news-080114-1.html).
Yeah. I don't care who opposes them. I'm on the opposition's side.

I don't agree with killing these whales, but I still think those activists are ass bags. The episode I watched started all nice, next thing I know there a grenades being thrown between ships. Its a weird show, I think it would have made a better news piece then a whole series...

I caught on just from the previews the activists were assholes. All in narc gear and speed boats. They are essentially pirates trying to seize boats themselves. I don't agree with whaling but there are much more effective routes to go if you really want to change something. Same w/ Greenpeace. They are a mockery of what they actually stand for cause all their "protests" involve asshattery that put peoples lives in danger.

I watched last season, I hate these people. The captain also FAKED getting shot.

Why should they not have guns???? They are hundreds of miles from the nearest help, carrying guns is as important as life vests and a radio.
But unless I am wrong, I don't believe these whalers have firearms....at least last season they did not.
I heard a story of a man and family on a boat of some sort traveling the world, he defended the lives of his family via firearms, had he no arms, he would have been dead.

The coolest thing happened this week on Whale wars....
After endless harassment of these assholes on the "steve irvin", the whalers managed to kill 4 whales right under there noses.
They actually got to see the whalers harpoon, drag in, and shoot to death, some sort of large whale. It was the payoff for me, I was cheering the whalers on, as these environmentalists are nothing more than low rent terrorists.
The captain's judgment is awful, he blunders everything, his failure to get his mission done makes me happy.
I dont care about the whaling, it is fine, people eat the meat, so it is no worse than any other hunting, I think hunting is more humane than farm meat. As hunting allows the animal to roam freely till its taken, farm is dirty and like a life in prison.

I've only seen two episodes (one, this morning)... and YES the activists are assholes. I can't believe that I was happy to see the blood running from their scuppers. I chuckled while watching the Japanese throw chunks of whale guts overboard and seeing the activists having to steam through them.

Isn't hunting whales illegal by international law?
not for research.
International community does not like it, but Japan found a loophole. They do legitimate research, but then use the rest of the whale for its meat, basically not wasting the carcass.
Aboriginal people can hunt whales, so what is the difference? We are all aboriginal people to somewhere.

As much as I'm against hunting whales commercially... It's satisfying as hell to see these people fail. They just come across as so douchey and,"I'M TRYING TO SAVE THE PLANET... MAAAANNNNNNNN!!!" It makes me wanna' throw things at the TV.

That sounds pretty douchey. What kind of research are they doing that they can hunt in international waters like that?

Pretty much. The whale hunting sucks, but it's sweet to see these jerkstores fail so hard.

the efficient way they kill these things is really as humane as it could possibly be, way more humane than an aboriginal kill. They harpoon them, reel them in, and then use a high powered rifle to shoot it in the brain killing it.
Its the old "cute animal" thing...unless you are a strict vegan, you use products or food that is harvested in a much less humane way. We simply see whales as smart and beautiful, and cows as dumb and ugly.

For one, comapring the scope of ecological damage caused by aboriginal wahle hunters to those caused by industrial whale hunters.
Secondly, while there is a degree of truth in your idea of the psychology of how some people approach which animals are "worthy" of preservation, that's hardly the defining factor in the opposition to whale hunting. Comparing whales and cows in that regard is ridiculous: the protests over whale hunting stems primarily from how so many species of whales have been hunted to the brink of extinction and how their extinction would be so detrimental to the ecology of our oceans. This simply is not the case with cows. Cows are not on the brink of becoming extinct. That is the crux behind the reasoning behind preserving whales; not that they're "cute" or considered intelligent or beautiful. That's just window dressing for some people to the actual reason.
