It's been a well documented fact that I despise my job. In fact, the only reason I work it is so I could support myself thru the holidays and then start a "real" job hunt in the new year.

(I lost my last job in the Lucent Bloodbath of 2001.)

Well, my boss decided to lay down an edict that EVERYONE had to work 2 of the four holidays - Christmas Eve, Christmas, NYE, and NYD.

I was scheduled to work today but I told them last night that I was gonna be out of the state and wasn't coming in. I mean, seriously, I weigh the pros and cons in my hand - my family, which I take very seriously, or my job, which I'm very good at but I really don't enjoy. It's a job, not a career. Big difference. If it was a career, I'd take it a lot more seriously.

I don't think I'm better than anyone that I don't have to work Christmas. I just think it's asinine that our store was open. I'm given responsibility because I'm seen as mature and having my head screwed on straight... something that is somewhat rare in the restaurant industry.

Oh well. I don't care.

But Reeshy, that's the key point - you have a career as a Cop - not a job.

I took a job working in a restaurant because it was easy money while looking for a career. I did it so I wouldn't feel like a pathetic leech sucking on a government teat known as "unemployment".

I don't think this job is below me... it's just it's not where I should be right now.

Actually, our store discontinued "flair" a while ago. The official reason is that people complained about offensive flair, but the real reason is that the franchise president saw "Office Space" and was horrified.

Fuckin' paper jam. What am I gonna do with 40 subscriptions to Vibe?!
