Colmes is leaving Hannity to go on alone. (http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20081124/pl_politico/26523)

Discuss.

I really don't care about it. I think I've watched all of five minutes total of the show in the last 5 years. I'm just a thread whore.

Colmes was a total douchebag willing to be a punching bag for a total scumbag. Seriously, if Hannity had tried to run the weak shit he runs against a real liberal willing to call him out, he'd get his ass handed to him. But pussy ass Colmes just stood there and let himself get reamed. And through his utter fagginess, Colmes made Hannity's weak ass recycled Republican talking points seem valid to hayseeds. "Well, Hannity took down Colmes! He must be right!"

So fuck him.

think? he doesnt have to think about it. he'll just get. all thanks to the wonderful "fairness doctrine" that his party is trying to push through. so, it wont matter how crappy his show is, he'll have equal face time. nobody will watch it, so advertisers will pull from his show, and his station will bankrupt all in the interest of fairness.

And never mind that nobody, anywhere, in any party, sees this as a remotely important issue right now.

No, it's not.

When the FD was in use, and as upholded by the Supreme Court, it simply offered an option of response by any person or group attacked on public airwaves. It says nothing about providing equal time or equal shows or whatever it's been twisted to be about. If someone said they wanted to respond to an attack on them, the station could opt to give them 5 minutes at 4 AM and fulfill what the FD was about. It wouldn't "neutralize" anything.

Wasn't the fairness doctrine introduced under Roosevelt to silence Father Charles Coughlin and used years later by Shirley Chisolm to get her message across. Seem to remember reading this somewhere...

for those who don't know Coughlin is referred to as the father of hate radio

The FD didn't show up until 5 years after FDR was dead.

It doesn't work in any way to "silence" anyone, as the Supreme Court has emphasized.

The original Fairness Doctrine was passed in 1949. Father Coughlin was done broadcasting in the 1941-1942 area.

So the answer....no.

So what you are saying is that certain conservatives are misrepresenting a concept so as to present themselves as being a victim of the mainstream or a liberal government?

Just so we're all on the same page...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairness_Doctrine

The Fairness Doctrine was a policy of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that required the holders of broadcast licenses to present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was honest, equitable, and balanced. It should not be confused, but often is, with the Equal Time rule. The Fairness Doctrine deals with matters of public importance; the Equal Time rule only deals with political candidates.
The United States Supreme Court upheld the Commission's general right to enforce the Fairness Doctrine where channels were limited, but the courts have generally not ruled that the FCC is obliged to do so.[1] In 1987, the FCC abolished the Fairness Doctrine, prompting some to urge its reintroduction through either Commission policy or Congressional legislation.[2]
