Have you ever found something of value that someone discarded or perhaps found for sale at a garage sale? I have, more than once.
Once while driving, something caught my eye.Could it possibly be what I think it was.I quickly drove around the block and pulled to the curb, and there it was, tossed out in the trash.I grabbed it and held it close as I returned to my car. It was in pristine shape, completely in tacked. It was part of my past which was lost long ago.I now had back in my possesion which was taken away.I now had back my G.I Joe space capsule ( with astronaut included)which was put in the garbage by my mother when I was at school.I,m looking at it now.....

This happens to me all the time. I like to collect little discarded things I find and give them much more meaning than the person that threw them out, I'm sure. The last cool thing I got was a piece of a cardboard box that had a happy rabbit face looking at pointy, poorly drawn carrots going into a bowl. I guess this box held carrots--I don't know.

Once while walking thur a forest, I came upon a sword stuck in a stone.I wondered who could have done this to a perfectly fine sword.I pulled it out and brought it home. I,m looking at it now...

in my neighborhood growing up, thursday night was when people would put out their large bulk items for garbage pickup the next day. we used to marvel at the parade of people we'd see carrying other people's junked chairs, tables, etc. to their homes. we'd occasionally see people carrying disposed-of, used mattresses back to their houses. that's just disgusting!

Oh, but you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you.
But if I went 'round sayin' I was Emperor, just because some moistened bitch lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away!

I wish I could post a pic. I bought a hand made hat once in a garage sale for 3 or 4 bucks. Its made of red yarn, white yarn and the label side of Old Milwaukee cans. Fuckin beautiful. Wide wasn't real thrilled but fuck er.

I bought a Yamaha AM/FM tuner at a community auction for $12. I sold it on Ebay for $126 or so.
My mom bought an Edison cylinder phonograph at my Aunt's yard sale. After holding on to it for about 15 years, I sold it for her on Ebay for $1500.

When I was homeless, I found an unopened pop tart on the ground, and I ate it. No joke.

Yeah. And maybe right after I found a toaster strudel, I found a winning lotto ticket. I live in the REAL world, bucko!

Weird this thread came up. Tonight after Thanksgiving dinner, my father gave me this chair and ottoman that he found in the trash maybe 10 years ago and has been sitting in his basement. I just looked into it and it looks like it may be worth anywhere from $500 on up.
Cool!

An guy I worked with a few years ago was a real flea market hound. He wasn't too computer savvy though. He was only 50, but a real old school curmudgeon when it came to computers & cell phones & stuff. So I was selling things for him on eBay whenever he thought he found a gem.
He gave me a beat-up Cartier gold lighter in a red leather box that he bought for $5. Even with clear pictures & all the blemishes described in the auction it sold for $235.

There was a used book store that used to sell used comics for half of the cover price. I won't pretend that I found Spiderman #1 or anything like that, but there were many times that I'd get something worth $5-10 for 35 cents.

They may be worth 5 or 10 bucks, but good luck getting the cover price from buyers and collectors. A buddy of mine tried to sell his collection and no one wanted to give him close to what the books were worth.

When I worked at the poetry club I would find stuff in the lost and found all the time.
Of course I always waited till it hadn't gotten picked up for at least 2 weeks but I got a shit load oa awesome scarfs and umbrellas.
I also had a couch that was picked up from outside...
I'm also a big fan of clothing swaps...
I actually bought my first coat EVER this month.
I have never in my life bought a coat until now.

I buy like 2 coats a year sometimes. I have so many and some I have worn once. Mostly they are ones I bought online or from a catalog that does not fit me right. I have one now thats my favorite and I got in in Walmart for $35. It is suppose to look like a Carhart jacket.

I own a 1939 BSA M-20 Military Motorcycle that I bought from an old biker whose wife was having a baby and need cash.He said he won it playing cards and let me have it for $118.I restored it myself. Then one day years later I,m walking thur Saddle Brook park with my girl at the time and her vicious dog in the back by the bicycle trails and what do you think I find?? Yes, thats right, the machine gun/ luggage racks for my british motorcycle laying amongst the trees. My bike had them but now I had 2.I every so often walk back there hoping I,ll find the rest of that motorcycle. Another good thing, the girls gone but I still got the motorcycle. I,m looking at it now..
