Has anyone else seen this amazing show (BBC)? Show debuted in the 70's featuring employees (they always featured the employees in the clothing department) who worked in a department store (something along the lines of Macy's) called Grace Brothers.

Needless to say, absolutely hysterical.

Yea, it is a pretty good show. I used to watch it when I was little. I'ld go from noontime 3 stooges, to this show, and then finish it off with a little Benny Hill.

Yeah I love it.

I have the 1st box set that came out.

Since then they've come out w/ a second box set that I think includes a few more modern TV movies w/ some of the original cast memebers.

I remember seeing one where they were on a farm or something.

Classic British humor but not as funny as Fawlty Towers in my opinion.

Me and my gal have been watching it again from the beginning. Such a great show. Mr. Humphries died not too long ago, because of Hep A. Ms. Braum (sp?) is dying, she fought off cancer twice already, but this time, she's not going to make it. Mr. Grainger is dead, along with the original Janitor. Captain Peacock is still around, along with Rimbauld. I think Mrs. Slocombe is still alive.

My first British comedy... I used to watch it with my grandpa and still enjoy it to this day, and even own a bunch of the seasons. My taste in Brit-coms has gotten a little bit more specific than just wigs and catch phrases (AYBS reminds me of Andy Milman's show in Extras), but it's a comfort.

Mr. Humphreys was always my favorite, in fact, he and Fez always reminded me of each other.

Watched it almost religiously when I was a wee lad. Love it. Original Mr. Grace FTW.

Ha, good call. I used to watch this show on PBS as a kid when I was going through my whole British comedy phase. It was passable then, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to watch it now. I really should pull out my old Fawlty Towers VHS set one of these days. I used to LOVE that show.

Sorry Mooch. I always loved Are You Being Served. I still stop and watch it if I pass it while scanning the channels. Benny Hill too.

Good stuff.

I haven't watched it in years.

I must agree with your assessment, Laboob. It isn't the deepest material the Brits have given us.

Mr. Humphries just died either this year or late last year. I was inconsolable.

We met John Inman (In-man lol) in DC about 7-10 years ago. He was doing a PBS promotion for the show. Despite what that alcohol brain-laden mooch says, this show was and is consistently funny. Keep in mind the era when it was produced, and the needed double entendre and not so entendre.

If you like "served", then try "the last of the summer wine".

you may recognise someone from "served". "wine" is not my favorite bbc show, by a mile, but it's in the same vein.

while i like my new 'alcohol brain-laden' nickname youre mental if you think last of the summer wine is similar to are you being served...maybe 'on the buses' or 'open all hours' is similar to that stuff.

If you want decent british comedy of that era check out 'steptoe and son' or 'whatever happened to the likely lads'

i'm merely pointing out that both shows share mutual actors, are british, involve a similar generation of characters, and share the same dry humor to some extent. i disagree with you when you say that "served" isn't funny. "wine" to me is not that funny, but often if i find a fan of "served", then they are usually watching "wine" too. and they are usually in their late 60's or older.

cheers, mate

I'll usually defend British comedy to the death if need be, but all the times I watched ...Served were like fucking agony.

And I mean like actually banging a pin cushion.

Yeah, this show and Benny Hill are my rebuttals to anyone who claims British comedy is inherently superior to American comedy.
