Today's show reminded me of something I was thinking about recently. I could listen to the guys (and girls) piling on Franklyn all day, every day. Now admintedly, I'm a Franklyn hater, but just find this to be the funniest damn thing. Doing the voice, Dave saying dandy candy to him, and just generally pointing out that everything he says is stupid.....I love it all.

So what is it that you can't get enough of on the show?

Ron. And Fez. Alone. Discussing what they see on cnn or in the paper.

Back in the day, they used to have a newsbreak (hour?) and it was the best.
Just riffing on the news. Alone. No 'producers', no guests, no hangers-on.

Really? How long have you been listening? While there have been elements that were just Ron & Fez (such as the fastest hour, the Big City, etc.), the Ron & Fez Show has always incorporated staff, friends of the show, etc. To say that you miss the Ron & Fez Show when it was only Ron & Fez is missing something that never really existed.

Fastest hour was never "Ron and Fez Show" proper, it was an ancillary hour they did where they just quick hit topics.

if you love them piling on Franklyn...then aren't you a Franklyn fan? cuz he does contribute..hes contributing by being fodder. People like Franklyn and New Lilly and Spandyman..i like them on the show, not cuz they are necessarily talented and funny but because the radio that is produced at their expense is.

I guess i'm an "end justifies the means" radio listener

While I may not have the pedigree of having been here forever or listening to the show since the beginning I have listened full time and lisented to most everything in the file library so yes I have been listening. I not claiming that it was ever just Ron and Fez. A lot of the characters are what make the show. But I think it has evolved into being the Ron and his crew show with Fez a marginalized bit player. And even worse Fez has more and more become a punching bag for bits rather than a participant. I do not claim this is anyones fault nor am I bashing any producers as may be claimed. I am merely saying I miss the show when it was more Ron "and" Fez then it is at present.

No, I really don't like him. I decided a while back that I wasn't going to complain about the show in any way. Whatever direction Ron wants to take it is his decision, so I'll just sit back and enjoy the ride. Now, that doesn't mean I necessarily love everything, but I'll still support and enjoy the show. Franklyn's personal "contributions" are something I don't like. But if he's going to be on the show (and this is something I accepted a long time ago), then I may as well get some enjoyment out of it. Hearing him talk himself in circles and having Dave and everyone else beat the shit out of him is something I can and do enjoy.

Being from the Philly area I love Ron's stories of his youth. Love the fact that he will drop a reference that only people in about a ten mile radius should get.

Lately, I've been enjoying Dave's Earl impression and Ron's acceptance of that being the real Earl. Cracks me up everytime.

but take todays show for example. it was them busting on Franklyn and his voice and personality and you loved it cuz you dislike him. But if you didn't dislike him you wouldn't have loved the show today so much. So if Franklyn wasn't there to begin with you wouldn't have had a show you enjoyed so much like you did today.

All the 'best of' bits I hear have hangers on and hacks chiming in. Keisha won't shut up during the DC stuff. The WNEW stuff has constant chick fans in the studio giggling into a mic and trying to be sexy and cute (Sheepy now holds that job). Billy and Al and the others were always around.

i also think that the people that arent as "well liked" as others, i think part of the reason the radio segments are so funny is because they are so hated by a lot of the fans

Like when Spandyman is on the air, its funny cuz hes a weirdo and R&F deal with his weirdness. But then, additionally, its funny cuz so many people listening hate him and can't understand why he is on the air. Its like, double-layer of funniness that has nothing to do with Spandyman's "talent"

For people that do like the segments of "R&F plus weirdoes" I think we need the people who don't like those segments for it to be great. They both work together

And i think if i keep analyzing this i will soon understand the mysteries of mankind

The day Ron went on for 20 minutes about how he would love to catch a baby falling out of a building. I was cracking up so hard as described the type of catch it would be. A shoestring catch right before it hit the ground. Great stuff.

However I like the show when a lot of people are in studio. I don't know what it is, but when you hear a bunch of people in there, Fez is back. It's weird, but I feel like Fez does better in front of a big audience when the pressure is really on. For example, the Thanksgiving show. Fez was on fire, and I think it's because he feeds off of the crowd.

I am merely saying I miss the show when it was more Ron "and" Fez then it is at present.

Very good points. While I have listened since WNEW and will always be a fan of both Ron and Fez and the show, I have been generally and increasingly disturbed at the overall direction of the show since at least mid-2006. I know that Fez needs to be the one to step up, but it seems that Ron and others have all but given up on Fez (in terms of on the air, I don't mean in general). It seems that Fez does step it up when he feels that he needs to - live appearances, Opie and Anthony Show, large audience in the studio, etc. So it can be done.

But it also needs to be nurtured by Fez and others. It seems like Fez is hiding, and others are OK with that. It is not good when the co-host of the show says maybe 30 words in an entire hour and goes minutes and minutes on end without speaking. It is like the big uncomfortable elephant in the room. And while I understand Fez's difficulties and hope he gets better, that doesn't mean that I have to make believe I enjoy the show when I don't or enjoy it as much as I used to.

A full-strength Fez is, in my opinion, easily the funniest guy on radio. I hope that he someday feels confident enough again to let his real joy and free-wheeling on-air self shine through. And I really do miss the incomparable on-air chemistry between Ron and Fez, which has been virtually nonexistent for at least the past two years. Enough with all the people acting as buffers!! Let's hear Ron and Fez again!! I understand that others have always been involved, but they were used in the right places, and Ron and Fez were able to have actual conversations with each other that were funny and made sense. Also, just having various people talk incessantly in the studio doesn't mean that they're entertaining. And can Ron seem any less enthusiastic about talking with Fez on the rare occasions when they do have an actual conversation?

No, I am not a "hater." I am a long-time fan who feels bad about the direction of the show and the sadness and frustration which seem to permeate the show sometimes. If Fez and others could feel better, that would be most desirable. If they could do that and get the show back on track, that would be a nice bonus. I'm not trying to be negative, I'm just trying to tell the truth as I see it (just like a real supporter of a football team would if they are going through some difficulties), instead of making believe that everything is OK and that the show is as good as it ever was.

I know that this line of conversation is blasphemy to some on this board, but it has to be said, and I'm glad that more people are saying it as of late.

First before you ask since 2000.

Not speaking for anyone else when I say "The Ron and Fez" show I am looking for MORE Fez. Yes the characters, staff etc were always there but Fez was in the mix too. I'm sick of point and laugh at Fez. Sorry but I will never drink the Kool-Aid that the show hasn't changed and everythings the same. Good points. Fez used to be even more than "in the mix," he was a true cohost and added as much if not more to the show than Ronnie B. And I remember the days when staff and interns used to respect/fear Fez just as much as they do Ron, instead of piling on him during the show. It pisses me off to no end when Dave joins Ron in making fun of Fez and sometimes seems almost dismissive/condescending in his busting. Maybe I am going overboard now, but this stuff gets me fired up.

As long as Ron and Fez (and Dave too I guess) are not talking to or about paltalkers/weirdo listeners, I could listen all day long.
