On today's show Dave told a story about an incident that happened last week following the taping of the Thanksgiving show. He (Dave) was going to bust Spandy's balls by pulling his pasta trays out of the garbage, since that's where the food wound up. It was a running joke all through the show that no one would dare eat it. Franklyn felt this would hurt Spandy's feelings way too much and he interceded, getting in a shouting match with Dave.

When they discussed it today, Franklyn seemed to think he was in the right because he was sticking up for someone who wasn't totally capable of taking the joke or defending himself. Dave said Franklyn likes to believe he's more sensitive and has a higher sense of morality than most people and that's why he acted like he did.

What's your take?

Did Franklyn do the right think by stopping Dave from going too far, as he felt?

Or is he a smug, self-righteous egotist?

I love Franklyn...i think hes a great guy

but

he was wrong 100% of everything he said on todays show. If everyone from HTG to Black Earl found the joke funny and non-cruel than it was an acceptable joke, especially for our crowd, a crowd Spandy is more than familiar with

I know spandyman (ive driven him home from events with him breaking down in tears on the way home)...he is relatively of normal intelligence. He has handled way worst ball-busting than putting his stupid tray in the garbage. I think most of the people that were at the party are smart enough know when a joke goes too far and since none of them agreed with Franklyn then there was no problem.

Dave = right

Wait Dave was right about something.... what is this world coming too I guess this is the change Obama mentioned once or twice.

Sorry, it's ESD's call all the way. If you can't handle some ball-busting, what the hell are you doing in the O/A and R/F studios in the first place!? I'm sorry, I'm sure it would have "hurt" spandy's sensative side, but I find that entertaining in it's own right. Question, why the fuck IS Franklyn in studio almost every day? Is he an actual part of the show, or just one hell of an annoying hanger-on with no day job!? I love hearing fans on the show here and there, but not when they take the show in different directions for their own piece of mind and stamp on the show. Sorry, back the hell off and go to fucking work Franklyn.

Franklyn is a fun governor. He decides when and how people should be having fun. I'm pretty much firmly planted on Dave's side.

If it was Dave's joke, I would have agreed with Dave that it is funny, but not when I heard it comes from Babygirl. I think the difference is the place the joke comes from. When Dave does something mean it's still in the spirit of fun. He's a nice, funny, guy who may do some mean stuff for a laugh, but I don't feel like he has the sole intention of hurting the other person.

However as it has been established many times before, including the calls on New Lilly day, Babygirl is an unfunny cunt who has a superiority complex because she shows her tits on Paltalk. The fact that she spent the show, and after it telling Crazed he should die, or kill himself was annoying to hear. She does these things solely from a place of anger and condescenscion that in my opinion, takes the humor away from the joke.

Unfortunately for Franklin, he is so obsessed with bashing Dave that he didn't see why the joke was mean. He could have had a point if he had argued that the joke was too mean, but he lost his mind trying to blame Dave for it. It's sort of like the Franklin vs Dave fight in itself. Dave makes fun of Franklin, but even though he finds Franklin annoying, I don't think he hates the guy. Franklin tries to make fun of Dave and he comes across as a hateful and angry guy because there truly is hate for Dave there.

I wouldn't even give Bgirl a second thought. Did you hear how stupid she was on the Family Feud show? Seriously, I felt bad for her....ok I lie...I laughed my ass off!!

Still, I totally agree with your point on where the comedy is coming from with Dave. He's a really good guy who really pokes fun, versus doing it with the sole purpose of being mean. The guy throws himself under the bus daily, why the hell is it so bad if he messes with people (HE INVITED/THEY ACCEPTED) when they stop by the show. If you take offense, it should be with show concerns as you the last poster mentioned above (new lilly), not friendly ball-busting. Does Franklyn even fucking get the show?

I was actually more upset about Franklin having the idea that he can manage interns (the Lucas thing) and then giving food to "the enemy" which set Fez off and at that point, I had to turn off the radio.

I can deal with a lot of things, but when Fez gets over emotional, either angry or sad, I get upset.

I bring her up because it is a personal pet peeve of mine when people are mean like her. Why do people like that feel the need to degrade someone just because they are different? I can understand how she may find Crazed creepy because he stares at her tits or whatever, but she only finds that annoying because he doesn't host a radio show. Crazed puts up with a lot of crap and still is in good spirits. Just from what he has done on the air I think he actually brings something different and sometimes fun to the show. And Spandy has some great fucking lines on the air.

I can't say the same for her. What has she brought to the show? The only funny thing about her are the sounders that is just making fun of her.

I can only judge from what I hear on the show. I don't have Paltalk, have unfortunately never been to a show get together, and I rarely get a chance to visit 202 message boards. What I see is one person who feels the need to constantly and hatefully attack someone who she doesn't like for whatever the reason. I know I don't hear about Spandy and Crazed constantly insulting their tormentors other than Crazed's "fuck the haters" slogan.

So really "they know each other" isn't a defense in any way that I can see.

Great job Dave for exposing Franklyn for the douchiness that is him.

About this Babygirl problem.
It seems like she's turned Paltalk into this Heathers type high school thing that we're forced to hear about.
So what if Crazed or Spandy are creepy on some video webchat service that only a minority of the listeners subscribe to.
I hate her penchant for ganging up on and picking on the weak.

I guess that had little to do with Dave v. Franklyn

i have to disagree. i dont think there should be some minimum quality contribution requirement in order to visit the studio or stop by the show or to be invited to the show thanksgiving party. its not like she's pushing herself on the mic all the time but then adding nothing. she was there for the same reason the rest of us were there-- she was invited. she and i have had our issues in the past, but i dont see a problem here.

Last week was the first time I ever met Spandy and I've got to say he's one of the funniest SOBs I've ever met. I had a blast hanging with him.

I think Franklyn's a genuinely nice guy, too. I don't think he's malicious in any way, but he does come off as condescending and holier-than-thou at times. I don't know him well enough to say whether that's because of a superiority complex or just the vibe he unintentionally gives off.

I really don't know Babygirl at all so I can't comment on her.

Where did I ever say you need a minimum contribution to visit the show? I contribute nothing to the show, but I want to eventually visit the studio and meet the hosts. I have no problem with the fact that she visits the show. Good for her. I never said she shouldn't be invited to these things. I honestly don't even know what point of mine you're arguing.

I am saying that I find it annoying that someone who contributes nothing funny to the show, feels she has the right to attack and be cruel to someone because he stares at her on Paltalk. It's petty and it reveals a lot about who she is as a person.

To be fair, though, with a show as fan friendly as Ron and Fez a lot of us have met and hung out with each other and the people involved with the show.

I think we've carried the anti-Babygirl agenda to its zenith of relevancy as per this discussion already spain- start a thread about how much she sucks if you feel the need but let's try to stay on topic here. This is about Dave+Frank, not Babygirl+high school memories. Tho it's tempting me to join Paltalk...

I don't think Franklyn is neccessarily acting like he's superior, he just doesn't have that comedic killer instinct that you kinda need to be funny. Listen to the way he talks- every sentence ends with a phonetic version of a smiley :) so he can let whoever's listening know that he's just kidding and that clashes with EVERYTHING on the air.

I mean, c'mon. We've endured it enough times already where he instantly refutes something cuz he can't go along with the bit for fear of who-the-fuck-knows.

I think what makes Franklyn so hard to like is that he just seems like he's above it all.

Ron has said in the past "On my show you either make the joke or you are the joke." Where does Franklyn fit into that equation?
Franklyn has never been funny on the show and now that he's the one being tooled on, he can't seem to handle it.

At least people like Crazed and Spandy are comfortable with their roles on the show.

Did Franklyn do the right think by stopping Dave from going too far, as he felt?

Or is he a smug, self-righteous egotist?

I think it's immature high school bullshit when people loosely connected to the show pile on an easy target, whether it's Spandyman or New Lilly. I don't mind if Dave or Sam or Sheepy does it, because they play the heel their share of the time. But for Babygirl to scheme against some of these people, knowing full well that there is no chance of the tables being turned is just cowardly and mean, and I don't find any comedic value in that. What I do, however, find comedic value in is the fact that Franklyn *actually* thinks he has a chance with *every* woman he meets.

Have you ever seriously sat down and had a chat with me? You've only dealt with me online. As most people can attest to, and it can't be explained, I seem to be an entirely different person off line.

It's been asked before and never draws a genuine answer...What does Franklyn actually do?

For the first couple of months it seemed that it had more to do with him filming things behind the scenes, which I was all for considering I'd have liked to have seen it. But now he stands around telling interns what to do, without knowing why things are the way they are behind the scenes? Things such as why interns have been instructed, by their bosses mind you, to do things like keep "The Enemy" at bay. So he must have some official reason to be there, no?

I sincerely want to know what he does.

If it's to be an on air personality with his half-chuckles after everything he says...It's a failure. If anyone thought he was half as funny as he finds himself, I'm sure one of his eleven "feature films" would spotlighted it at some point.

If it's to produce bits like "Family Feud", it's a failure.

If it's to add to sports discussions by bringing up his cousin, who's name, I can only assume, is "Baserunner From Cypher Films"...Fail.

If it's to be the morality police, again....Fail. I don't see the logic that because he actually believes he could fuck Lilly, it's somehow less of a dickface move for him to openly say something like that to her co-workers, be it 202 or not. Not to mention the smug "I don't remember if I said that" bullshit he tries to get away with after the fact.

Since it's going to be at least another four years before the Ron & Fez show needs a weepy, one sided political correspondent who somehow speaks for every nationality under the sun...Perhaps he should move on.

To me he seems like someone who was allowed to hang out with the cool kids for just a bit too long and forgot to leave. However, he hung around long enough to have his ass handed to him in a battle of wits with East Side Dave, who it's pretty clear he sees as intellectually inferior. Hopefully that'll do it.

Perhaps he and Tommy Z could sail off to Cuba (Kooooba) together. They'd likely never stop laughing. Also, I'm hearing rumors of a Guns N' Roses show.

I actually haven't seen any of Franklin's films although I'm curious about the horror movie Ron mentioned the first time I ever heard of the guy. However his laugh really is creepy. I don't know what his job is on the show. I thought he was filming behind the scenes stuff. I think Ron and Fez should get their own HBO show. Just put a live feed of the show on the air at noon. I would love it.

the problem is...if we did....the temptation to throw it away/not eat it again would be overwhelming. uncontrollable really.

Tallman388

I think it's immature high school bullshit when people loosely connected to the show pile on an easy target, whether it's Spandyman or New Lilly. I don't mind if Dave or Sam or Sheepy does it, because they play the heel their share of the time. But for Babygirl to scheme against some of these people, knowing full well that there is no chance of the tables being turned is just cowardly and mean, and I don't find any comedic value in that. What I do, however, find comedic value in is the fact that Franklyn *actually* thinks he has a chance with *every* woman he meets.

A-MEN!!!

Every time I think Franklyn is starting to figure out how the show works, he fucking blows it with his stupid sensitive garbage. Dave has a tendency to push jokes as far as he can and then over the edge, but just let him finish it. It's his job. If the joke sucks or makes Dave look like an ass, then that's his thing. If it were really as mean-spirited as Franklyn thought, it probably would have blown up in Dave's face and we wouldn't even be discussing it.

it showed Franklin's true colors,, or lack of them. he has no sense of what the radio show's humor is based on. and that is generally awkward , uncomfortable situations. with an occasional overly gay gesture on someones part,(usually ESD), to set up the cringe factor. but saying that, to me franklin now has a status on the show like earl. is he really an idiot who doesn't get the joke or is he a part of ronnie b.'s "big picture" and we the listeners are the rubes once again shelling out money for game we will never win.
if it is the former then i have someone else that i can hate with a passion on the show along with earl but for completely different reasons. or is taking us in two specifically different directions?
and if it is the latter then ronnie is sitting back smiling from ear to ear.
i think the only way to possibly see through the smoke screen is for franklin to get into one of fez and daves silly bets and lose a get out of town scenario.

I listened to the show this morning, and Franklyn comes across as such a snob. I think his hatred of Dave may be a result of Franklyn feeling that he is a real "artist", though Dave gets a much bigger reaction with humor that he feels is beneath him. Dave was right, he's an elitist with an inferiority complex. How that is even possible, I have no idea, but it's true.

Franklyn admitted it all stemmed from his personal anger toward Dave. Franklyn is an arrogant prick that isn't used to dealing with people that challenge him mentally/verbally. He tried to pull the whole "You're intimidated by me, Dave..." - but it's clear he knows Dave has his number.

Franklyn has always been terrible on the air, and just doesn't fit in. It's all great that he can video-record things, but really, I've yet to see anything unique in his videos.

His true arrogance came out, to the point that Ron was even against him, and Ron will usually take the side of the underdog.

Dave rules, Franklyn sucks

So I finally heard the entire thing today and I'm siding with Dave on this. There are times where Dave's pissed me off (pizza in the face, speaking too loudly into the mic, talking shit about Zappa) but he's made me laugh 100% more times than Franklyn ever has. Fuck, Master Po makes me laugh more than Franklyn. For Franklyn to step all over not only Dave's, but Ron's jokes every fucking chance he seems to get, is definitely the sign of someone who just doesn't belong in that crowd. Mooch is right.

Then for him to get all huffy because he's been backed into a corner and is obviously too thick and slow (and dumb and tar-like molasses-moving) to counter being thrown under the bus verbally that he has to resort to talking about how he wants to physically attack Dave proves how weak-minded and thin-skinned he really is. Also, having met both these guys before at events, I can say for certain that Dave would likely whip the shit out of his fat ass. Twisted Irish Steel, after all.

Stay behind the scenes and manage the seating arrangments at the Unmaskeds and shut the fuck up if you can't go along with something on or off the air.

Your post made me realize something about Dave's genius. He's like a radio zen master. By continually planting himself firmly under the bus, he's bought the right to bash the shit out of others, like Earl, Franklin (sorry but I'm spelling it the way a man would), Old Lilly, etc... He does have this weird aggressive side, like when he was fucking with Po about defending Lilly, almost daring him to lose his cool and kick his ass. The way he can become such a force on the show is because he's so willing to also get torn down. Everyone else probably already knows this but I just figured it out. Oh well.

Also, Franklin does come across as a guy who's developed this fake persona to compensate for his insecurities and he does come across as someone who thinks he's better than everyone else, and that's probably because he's not very good at taking a joke or being thrown under the bus. The "dandy candy" thing is not a crushing burn but it completely destroys Franklin.

He's working for the show. All the videos and behind the scenes stuff that Franklyn does is because he's employed by Ron and Fez. If he refuses to take a phone call or come on the air, isn't that a slap in the face to the guys who use your company for filming and promote your projects on the air?

For a guy who is mostly self-interested and living in a sensitive bubble like Franklyn does, the notion of slapping someone in the face likely doesn't even occur to him. You have to give a shit about others first to even notice such things.

hes not employed there. His only 'behind the scenes' role is asking earl to pull old interviews for the Ron Bennington Interviews Sunday night show.

At one point he was 'one phone call away' from booking guests himself but they all fell through..so earl does that too.

point is, employed or not you always take that call. its one thing coming in and trying to find a spot for yourself but when they finally NEED YOU and you think your TOO BUSY then youre done. simple

Now Don;t get me wrong.... I hate Franklin!!

But Lately I hate dave even more! The Kid can't handle anyone new one the show. He sees everyone as a threat.anytime someone comes up with a bit he rips it to shreds, while hes putting out crap like davey red. my dislike for dave started when he shoved FEZ's face into the ground a couple of months back. He is a spoiled little fag(the worst thing a man ccan be). He wouldn't even let Beanie finish a story without jumping in the other day. I understand he has a role to play but he really pisses me off most of the time. I can't understand why Ron sticks up for him so damned much.

He didn't seem to feel threatened when Mooch started coming in. I think he's a guy that always wants the best for the Ron and Fez show. Franklyn is AWFUL for the show, so he's fucking with him more. We may as well get some sort of entertainment value out of that dip shit Franklyn being in studio. I say bravo Dave.

I think that phrase now has the record of "fastest way of being driven into the ground." I mean, Ron brought it up on Monday and it's already entirely overused.
