Can anyone name the good music awards?

There are websites I go to for reviews or news (pitchfork, spin, brooklyn vegan) and they'll name albums/songs of the year but nothing too extensive.

The Grammys have such taste for shit, more than any other mediums awards. They give awards out to what sells regardless of merit.

At least with movies, it would be really hard to argue against the films that get nominated for an Oscar. And if there are snubs, you got the independent spirit awards.

These awards are shit.

and the grammys are just something for musicians to have in their homes. Regular fans don't remember who wins grammys or not

People can remember oscars. Maybe Emmys but thats it! i never once heard someone say "oh i like his music, u know he won a grammy?" No one can ever remember. Maybe in a news article they will say "Grammy Winning Artist..." but thats it. Even Obama has won a grammy and no one remembers

I hate the grammys ever so.

Reason?

Working music retail many, many years and all the white suburban moms coming in the next day saying:

"I want the compact disc... ya know for the house.... that has the lil black girl singing the song about love... she was on the awards last night"

ugh

or the classic...

"I need the new Santana... album of the year!!!! BOUT TIME!!!!"

double ugh.

It's pretty clear to me the storylines for this year's Grammys. Coldplay is going to be officially annointed the new U2. They're up for so many awards, and while they won't win them all they'll win enough to get the next day headlines.

Also, this year's old fogey finally being recognized is Robert Plant. While I enjoy his album with Allison Krauss, it's not THAT great. Yet I predict that besides sweeping the minor categories, they'll steal one of the majors.

I typically don't give a rat's ass about the Grammys, but this year is different becaaaauuuuuse...

Radiohead are up for five awards, and they're opening the show! EEEEEK!!!

Apparently, they are performing "15 Step" with the USC marching band. Typically, I find this kind of thing cheesy... But it's fucking Radiohead. They could shit on stage and it would be brilliant.

I plan to only watch their performance and DVR the rest of the show. Then I will fast forward to any acceptances they may give and/or any shots of Ed O'Brien because he is the sexiest MFer on the planet.

Paulisded said to me that he predicts Radiohead will be punished by the record companies for their independence. This is a good point... But if they lose Album of the Year to fucking Coldplay, Lil Wayne, or Ne-Yo my head might just explode.

Far and away the most out of touch mainstream awards show. The best music isn't even nominated let alone win. I'd rather have a Teen Choice award, its more prestigious.

Sorry hipsters Lil Wayne will be walking out with album of the year. Swagger Like Us will also be the performance of the night with a very pregnant M.I.A.

It's possible, but I predict that the Grammies will again show their age and award it to the Plant/Krauss album.

It beat out "...And Justice For All" to get the Grammy.

Both Pete Seeger and his half sister Peggy were nominated for albums. I think it goes to Peggy

I become more and more infatuated with Katy Perry every time I see her. Of course it didn't help matters any seeing her in that bikini a few weeks ago down in Mexico.

To show just how little I know of Rap, when I heard that this Lil Wayne was up for all these awards, the first thing I thought was "When the hell did that moron who was known for yelling 'WHAT', 'YEAH', and 'GET CRUNKED' become Grammy worthy?" Glad I looked it up to clear up that confusion.
Then again, the only thought that usually crosses my mind when I hear the word Lil is the boobalicious Lil Kim.

Bon Iver is terrible of course you would like that shit. I dont think anyone is beating Adele or Bruno Mars in any of their categories but then again after last years mess who knows. Maybe they can win best new artist for you? Cant see them winning Song of the year over Rolling in the deep or Grenade. Listening to Holocene makes me want to slit my wrist! Same goes for Record of the Year, how could they beat any of those other songs unless those songs split the votes of the majority and they slip in and win by accident. They sure as fuck shouldnt win because the song is any good.
