Gulf Oil CEO Joe Petrowski said on Wednesday that the price of oil could sink to $20 per barrel, and there is a chance gasoline prices could drop as low as $1 per gallon by early next year.

As long as the american people, fly less, drive less the price of gas will stay down. OPEC has been cutting productions and it is still going down. OPEC meets again Dec. 13th.

Two politicians really screwed here, of quite different political persuasions: Hugo Chavez and Sarah Palin.

Chavez, because his whole "socialist revolution" in Venezuela depends on massive government social spending that he probably can't afford if gas is $20/barrel.

Palin, because she's got to find a way to get the dumbasses in Alaska who voted for her their precious oil revenue sharing check, and that's much harder if gas is $20/barrel.

I think this goes back to the argument that the oil industry isn't really a supply and demand market. OPEC will do as much as they can (by controlling production) to keep the money flowing.

Food prices lag wildly behind energy prices. It's like a full year or so behind -- however, the weather cycle we're in currently is pretty wild. I don't really see food coming down any time soon. Ethanol is a scapegoat. You might as well start complaining about people growing non-food crops since it is the same difference.

Once that happens they start to sell off American treasury bills which will flood the market with dollars and reduce the value of our currency, which will set the entire thing into an even worse tailspin than we are in now, hyper inflation will start, and our economy will be worse than it has ever been in history.

It's going to be nice to pay nothing for gas in the short run but it's all going to blow up on us very soon.

With the economy in the shitter there is simply less demand. So the only thing those terrorists at OPEC can do is to lower prices to encourage consumption. As the economy falls, so will gas prices . . . . to a certain extent.
