I hear the term thrown out from time to time. Do I qualify by virtue of location and profession or is there more to it? If you need more info just ask. I'll try to clearify if I can. I really need to know because my identity and self worth is based on what you think of me.

You answered your own question in another thread:
Side story:

I get three cattle every spring and let my kids name them. In the fall we go out and they pick the one we eat. This year its Lisa. She should be done at the locker this week.. Nothing like knowing where you food comes from.

Even in Indiana we call that an RC car.

If you listen to Ron and Fez and don't ever call in to "Argue a point that those fellas have got all ass backwards" then you're probably not a hayseed.

The term, at least in my mind, includes a dim wit. Fans of this show who "get it" certianly don't fall into that category.

There's no shame in your or any profession. Farmer gotta eat.

Had to step away from the 'puter for a bit to serve up Funny Face to the family. He was last years steer. Any of your kids look their meal in the eye?Even in Indiana we call that an RC car.
That is a good one.

I've wanted to. I fed calves on a dairy farm when I was 15 for one summer. Cattle are the stupidest, filthiest animals I have ever come across. When I eat veal, it's personal.

No problem bro. I've been around the country a little with the band. Been to city centers and then we've played little bars in the outskirts of nowhere where pockets of Metalheads live.

I've found that most people are fairly to very cool. I actually like the areas away from cities more, city folk are in a rush. It's not their fault, they HAVE to be like that because millions of people around them are too.

I have a mix of suburb and city in my from where I grew up and I can appreciate both.

Hayseed is a state of mind rather than location. Long Island is chock full of hayseeds yet Austin or Athens or Madison barely have any.

If you have banged either your sister, or a sheep then you are a hayseed.

If you've only banged your first cousin , you're concidered , developmentally challenged.

"Hayseed" is not necessarily all bad. For example, I have never met a "dumb" farmer... hicky, sounds funny, socially unsophisticated, sure sometimes, but never dumb. Those guys have a way of figuring things out for themselves to make a living and get by on that any city would just give up on.

I guess I'm half a hayseed, in that my daddy owned a John Deere, I've been to a Dude Ranch on more then one occasion, I enjoy fishing and camping, I've been to county fairs where the highlight was "cow pie bingo", I've gone pond swimming in my underwear and yeah, i own a pig, if I could afford it, I'd own a horse too.

But don't let all that fool you, I'd NEVER wish to take permanent residence in the rural country, I like art, film and the like, I couldn't sing one verse of any country song ever sung, I voted for Obama, and I have all my own teeth.

I took my kids to see this. That doesn't make me a hayseed. Right?

Embrace it.

I have a pond in my yard, you're welcome to swim in your underwear any time. I have a few pigs as well.<a href="http://s490.photobucket.com/albums/rr266/tractorgreendog/?action=view&current=DSCN0144.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr266/tractorgreendog/DSCN0144.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

I've worked a ranch, own several pairs of boots, grew up on a 6 acre piece of land raising pigs, chickens, etc for dinner, sometimes turn the country music up loud, own forested property north of Houston, have always driven a truck, and hunt.

Yet, I am college educated, a scientist for 9 years, love the arts here in Houston, and can be rather refined if need be.

I would say I am quarter hayseed, half country boy, and quarter city boy.
