Alton Brown is Aces in my book..

I'm getting annoyed that the Food Netwrok has turned into the Guy Fieri Channel. In small doses he's okay, but they need to give it a rest.

what kind of 'table-scape' do you have planned?

My brother-in-law made some stuffed turkey breast things
for Thanksgiving that he saw on some Food Network
show with a guy named Tyler.
They were delicious.

That is all I know about any cooking shows. You're welcome.

I dunno... I could watch this girl cook all day. And most of her food is something I'd actually want to eat.

what kind of 'table-scape' do you have planned?

Things You’ll Need:

* Mexican blankets
* White pillar candles
* Terracotta plant pots
* Yellow charger plates
* Turquoise dinner plates
* Red soup bowls
* Linen napkins
* Mexican knickknacks
* Miniature cacti
* Miniature terracotta plant pots
* Paint markers

Step1
Cover the table with 2 or 3 colorful Mexican blankets rather than a traditional tablecloth.
Step2
Make a simple centerpiece by grouping white pillar candles of varying heights in the center of the table. Place the candles in plain terracotta pots for a southwest feel.
Step3
Set each place with a yellow charger plate, turquoise dinner plate and red soup bowl. Fiestaware has several colors that are ideal for a Cinco de Mayo tablescape.
Step4
Place large margarita glasses at each place setting.
Step5
Fold a colorful linen napkin into a flower and place inside the soup bowl. Select a color from the Mexican blankets tablecloth.
Step6
Search discount stores and thrift shops for Mexican themed figurines, such as Chihuahuas, cacti, chili peppers and sombreros.
Step7
Purchase mini cacti in terracotta pots. Write each guests name on the pot, using colorful paint markers.

She was ok before I got my HD plasma screen. In HD, you can see each layer of makeup caked on, and what years of eating her own food has done to her teeth.

And I seriously have contemplated driving to Savannah, GA to beat her sons to death with an axe handle.

Maybe you should put this to music and enter it as an original winter-carnival song.

Alton Brown has the best instructional cooking show on TV, and one of the best ever. Forget his sometime annoying personality...he not only shows you how to cook, but teaches you the whys and whens of the science and history.

Something about Alton Brown annoys the fuck out of me, but he does know his shit, which might make him more annoying.

Since the travel channel added Man vs. Food I watch it more than the Food Network, that plus No Reservations gets me my food tv fix.

I still like Iron Chef, but cut Cat Cora. Top Chef on A&E drinks pretty good.
Dinners, Drive Ins and Dives is worth a watch when I catch it.

Paula teaches you how to cook without restrictions on your diet. Eat what she makes daily and you will be over 500 lbs... but her stuff is awesome. I have never made something Paula showed on her show that wasn't phenominal.

The Barefoot Contessa made the best Thanksgiving dinner on her show that I copied it almost exactly (I didnt do some potato gord thing she did - but everything else) and it was the best turkey I ever have in my life and my stuffing was an A+.

I can watch Iron Chef anytime... I can watch Alton Brown if I want to learn how to actually cook something... and I like Diners Drive-Ins and Dives (but the show did get old for me). Other than that I ignore most of it. Rachael Ray is awful and I think she actually teaches people a lot of what NOT to do... watching her make an Asian dish infuriates me as she mixes all the cultures together and the laughs about it...

I like Bobby Flay's throwdown as well - but I wish they did a better job of showing the recipes. I wish Bobby had a better show where he showed off his stuff...

The best cooking show on TV is Top Chef - and I love No Reservations but I dont know how much cooking you learn. It did lead me to my favorite restaurant - Bouchon in Vegas. Neither is a Food Network show...

I hate Bobby Flay for the reasons people are hating on Alton Brown, so I am constantly convinced that they're mixing them up. (Apparently they're not.)

The thing I hate most about Bobby Flay is the fact that his recipes are all so yummy looking. Well, except for that godawful cranberry fool thing he made on the "Ask Food Network" Thanksgiving leftovers show. I like cranberries and I like whipped cream, but that's too much contrast for me, thank you very much.

If I didn't hate Bobby Flay so much, I would've watched more "Boy Meets Grill" and his other show (the one he did in front of an "intimate" audience comprised mostly of women giggling and going ga-ga over him) that I've forgotten the name of ... it was on so long ago!

I think Bobby Flay is a little smug and conceded. I still watch him because he is a good chef. I went to his place Bar Americain last year and the food was amazing. I just think his on camera personality makes him out to be kinda of douchie.

I wish that the Food Network, or PBS, would have an old-school cooking block. I grew up watching Julia Child, The Frugal Gourmet (Jeff Smith, shame about those pedophilia accusations), the Galloping Gourmet, Justin Wilson (LOVE that man, I garontee it). I think it would be interesting to see the old shows, in contrast to the new shows.

Dude got shocked. I'm pretty sure that's about how I woud react too. The conditions for this "battle" were obviously thrown together at the last minute. Wasn't this from the big "US vs Japan" Iron Chef special?

Don't get me wrong, I think he's an arrogant douche, but not because of anything like this.

Has he now bought into the Food Network? Just wondering because of how much he's on, and how involved he's been in the "Next Food Network Star" shows.

I've tried to watch some of the "Throwdown" shows. Obviously this is their lame attempt at him being "humble", and bringing himself down to the level of some of us commoners, but he ends up coming off like even more of an arrogant prick.

If he tried to copy their recipe, or beat them with an equivalent product, and lost, it would probably work better. But most of the time we have to watch him put "his spin" on their "classic" recipe, and they end up judging between two completely different tasting dishes.

Again, we're the rubes that think we like a classic dish made by a local proprietor, because we don't know any better. Big City Bobby is going to come to our town and show us peasants how much better HE would prepare it. And if he loses... so what. The "judges" are introduced as local people, with un-sophisticated palettes, who are biased, and his is still the best.

It actually gets much worse as you continue to watch the ep; whoever posted it on YouTube sliced it up, so it took me a while to find just the right part of the show to start with.

He ends up having a tantrum and making excuses about the equipment. And loses to Morimoto.

The Galloping Gourmet (I think his name is Graham Kerr) used to have a show in the late 80's where he would take a classic meal, break down the nutrition of the meal and its ingredients, and then showed a healthier way of preparing it. It was interesting.
ETA: I love Alton too, but I'm a little pissed at him in terms of bread baking. He makes it look harder than it needs to be, but that is my only complaint.
