I went there a few times as a kid. They had great rides and the food was good too. I also remember they had the "Little Miss America" pagent there. 8 and 9 year old girls entering beauty contests.

I went there in about 1970. I was about 5 I remember the fun house and the roller coaster the mousetrap or something like that it whipped you back and forth side to side. I remember getting samples of peanut butter captian crunch it was a new product or something.

I remember the "salt water pool" and the wave machine.
I also met "Cousin Brucie" from WABC, and got an autograph. Some of the rides are in Coney Island now, "The Jumbo Jet" being one of them.

I wasn't as fortunate as some of you. I never got a chance to experience the joys of Palisades Park.

Does anyone remember Buddy's or Peter Pan Land in good ol' Brooklyn?

Rings a bell, but I'm clueless. I do remember the old "Nellie Bly" though.

Jaf, the cartoon stumps me. I was gonna say "The Super Six", but I only count five! LOL
Palisades Park was right across the Hudson in Jersey, you could see it from the West Side Highway. They had a memorable theme song, urging you to "come on over". Too bad they demolished it.
BTW, Happy New Year to you my friend!

Parents took me to Palisades Park, but I vaguely remember it, I just turned 39. I do recall a story that someone had fell from the high cliffs and died. Did anyone else hear about this?

Do not remember the names, maybe BABY Man and ROPE Man. The BABY would whack you with the bottle as he was swinging it by the nipple? Is this somewhat accurate?

Yes! Heckler I remember the Playlands! Besides being a great place to go, my father used it as a land mark for fishing. We caught tons of Blues off the Playlands, what memories!!!! <P>

We used to fish for the baby bluefish off of Canarsie Pier. We called them snappers!
As for Bohack, it was a supermarket chain.

thank you Freddy "Boom-Boom" Cannon. . . but the lyric is "Last night I took a walk after dark"

And Heckler, sir, it's not Six Flags. . . it's GREAT ADVENTURE, a Six Flags park. . . it's a chain, man, a chain.

Is The Land of Make-Believe still open in Hope, NJ? Aside from Action Park in Vernon, NJ, that's probably the only other defunct amusement park I have ever been to.

But, then again, compared to some of you, I am a baby.

Heckler, you're really taking me back. To this day, whenever I smell french fries with vinegar, I think of Palisades Park. I was really young when I went there, so I don't remember much. I do recall the fun house, with the air that blew up from the floor and scared the shit out of you when you walked over it.

Oh, and that cartoon in jafter's sig (earlier in this thread) is of The Mighty Heroes, featuring Strong Man, Cuckoo Man, Tornado Man, Rope Man, and Diaper Man. It was directed, produced and animated by Ralph Bakshi of Fritz the Cat fame.

Who are you anyway?

Northern NJ, around the area of the GW bridg, on the cliffs (the Palisades) that overlook the Hudson River - I lived close enough to ride my bike there. I threw up there once after going on a ride right after lunch...It was definitely our Big Deal thing to do when my Dad took his vacation.

In the late 70's, my English professor either fell, jumped, or was pushed off - I vote for fell, because he was a drunk and fell down the stairs at school, as well. Is that who you mean? His last name was MacEachen.

Did you ever get one of those cool bamboo spears with the rubber arrowhaed and the feathers? If so, were you ever able to kill anyone with it?

Stroonze I remeber Buddy's on Utica Ave and Heckler Nellie Bly's over by the Belt Parkway. Buddy's had a great cafeteria and a kid's amusment park. The rides are still there but Buddy's is now a Burger King.

Sure do Heckler. Each year for my birthday, My parents would take myself and a group of friends over there for day and the rides and the food right off the water added to the day. now it is just a groupo of houses but I still drive past it every so often and remember
