it was 40 yrs ago today the who outshine the stones at their own show with this epic performance, and possible one of the best to be caught on film to date.

Thank you for posting. Me too - this made my morning. I saw the thread title and immediately thought of this performance. It's not only the Who at their peak but one of the greatest rock performances I have seen on film this side of the Last Waltz. Keith Moon...what can you say? I saw a documentary recently with a studio drummer talking about the genius of the man. He talked about how Moon could switch from left to right on the double bass and that it would be like someone doing a complicated guitar solo right-handed and then switch over and do it left handed too. I don't know if that is an exaggeration but I could watch videos of his drumming all day. I know people say he has the style of a jazz drummer so this isn't an original thought but he does remind me of Elvin Jones at his best.
