There are a ton of bands that have one huge song and then disappear from the face of the Earth, from The Troggs to Soft Cell to Eagle Eye Cherry to Amy Winehouse. But what about the bands/artists that manage to do it twice before falling into obscurity? Here are a few:
Smashmouth: Walkin' On The Sun & All Star
Sponge: Molly & Plowed
Fastball: The Way & Out Of My Head
Tone Loc: Wild Thing & Funky Cold Medina
Cutting Crew - Died in your Arms & Been in Love Before.

Their remake of "Video Killed The Radio Star" for The Wedding Singer soundtrack got a decent amount of airplay.

When I was little we got a cd player and my mom only let us have three cds. (We were really religious Baptist folk) College fight songs, Sci-fi movie themes, and Weird al in 3-d. I had no idea what real music was for another 3 years, I though I lost on jeopardy was a modern classic.

And the songs "Mach 5" and "Volcano" got play off the 2nd album and charted, especially the former.
I'd nominate most of the 2nd tier hair metal bands AKA the creepy soundtrack to Hottub's life. Those guys usually had the 1st "it's time to party and rock and ROCK PARTY" single and then the slow it down, life on the road is tough, this one is for the ladies 2nd ballad single and then they were gone.

Tears for Fears: Shout and Everybody Wants to Rule The World.
Two pretty good songs if you ask me.

As much as it pains me because i was a HUGE fan before they broke it big...
The Spin Doctors only had two real hits, Little Miss Cant Be Wrong and Two Princes.
They were an awesome bar band and from 1989 thru 1991 i saw them many times in NYC at the Continental, Wetlands, Mondo Perso and so many other clubs.
Then came MTV. Go figure!
They still tour and the last time i saw em a few years ago they kicked ass. Just like the old days.

"Head Over Heals" and "Sowing the Seeds of Love" were pretty big hits for TFF too.

Calling amy winehouse a two hit wonder is funny, doesn't she have 2-3 albums?
There's a difference between a "2 hit wonder" and someone who simply changes their style.
A huge example being moby.

Was "Break It Down Again" was a mild hit. I kinda remember hearing that one here & there.
a true two-hitter is The Romantics.
"What I Like About You"
and
"Talking In Your Sleep".
(to my fellow guitar buddays, "Talkin...." has three prominent guitar lines that work really well together. They make one solid part. Love it.)

I've never heard a single Amy Whinehouse song. I think I watched about 20 seconds of a video to see what her singing style was. I have no idea what the song was.

The lead singer from the Spin Doctors fronted some band at a pub in my neighborhood on Queens Blvd. last night. And I mean, some band at a pub.
That's a pretty big tumble down the ladder.

They had Open Letter To A Landlord ( I think that was the title ) and Glamour Boys as well.
The Bangles
Manic Monday
Walk Like an Egyptian
They also had Hazy Shade Of Winter and Eternal Flame.
Yahoo had an article about this a few weeks ago.
I'm gonna see if I can find it.
They had Young MC on the list.
I only remember " Bust The Move " and not the other one they had, possibly " Principal's Office ".

Orgy - Blue Monday & Stitches
There are some groups that definitely had only one or two hits, but had their own following outside of the pop charts to make them legitimate acts. That's why Janis Joplin can't be called a two-hit wonder. It's gotta be someone who hit it huge with a song, followed it up with a hit nearly as strong, and then disappeared from the music scene altogether.

That whole album was great, including Open Letter To A Landlord and Glamour Boys. But I don't remember these two songs getting much airplay or being hits. I could be wrong, it's been a long time.

Both had videos on MTV and that's kinda what I based it on but to your point I'm not sure if either had much radio play.
