The first better part of this year was one of the worst on record for me, but the last few months have been really fucking stellar, so I don't know how 2008 stacks up for my history. I kind of want to say it's a wash, but I think it finished strong enough to transcend and I can call it a good year.
So buddays, with the new year approaching, how was your 2008?

2008 was a big win.

In order of occurrence:

My first child was born, a daughter named Emelyn.

After three years of no work and full-time school I graduated with my second bachelors degree, this time in Landscape Architecture.

I got a job as a Landscape Designer for the state of NJ, and so far seem to be pretty secure, even in this economy.

I bought a new car.

We can still pay every bill on time, every time.

Ron and Fez are still on every day, noon to three.

Fucking awesome year. I am scared to death of 2009, because I don't think it could get any better.

I broke up with my girlfriend in May and have been really depressed ever since. I've also been dealing with some medical issues that are really frustrating. So the second half of this year I've been miserable.

But on the plus side, I discovered RonFez.net

Totally fucked up.
My mother got hit in a hit and run with the dog in the car, who ran away only to be found a few days later all weird. My brother got bit by a house spider and got a serious staff infection which left him in the hospital for 3+ weeks, we thought at one point he might not make it out. Then I got hit in the face with a line drive on the pitchers mound which broke all the bones on the right side of my face and left some lingering side effects that I can't go into here. My relationship with me fiencee hit the skids, 5 years and it looks like it'll be over before new years. After I healed from the softball smashing I got bit by an aggressive house spider and nearly lost my finger, which is where I was bit. Then my grandfather had a stroke, on my mother's side. Followed shortly by my other grandfather dying. Then my dog of 15 years suddenly passed away. I burried her in the pouring rain at night because my father was too distraught to wait until the following day. On the bright side, I did join ronfez.net so its not all bad. Fuck you 2008.

My dog died after 14 years, which sucked.
I had sex with a girl I was chasing for a couple of years.
That was good...

That gives me hope...My wife lost her job after 29 years and I am in the car business...............But I have great hope, and I am willing to work harder with the great customer base I have.....But I miss being young and standing in front of a large audience singing and playing..It has been the worst year to date.... But 2009 could bring great things because I have a great wife and great children that are healthy... And I have a job that if it is to be......... it is up to me......

Started shit, but ended with new careers for the Mrs. and I (She is cop, I is dogcop), new vehicles, and new hobbies (I is homebrewer, we is riding quads). Economic crisis has reversed for us. A good year.

08 was a year of redemption for me. 07 hurt me pretty good. I got a DWI, got laid off (in the country with no car), got evicted from my first apartment, had to move back with the parents at 21, and I had to work at a gas station for nearly a year to save up money to pay off court fees and get money to start my life over again.

In 08 I moved away from my parents in NY to AZ, just to get away and start a new life. I met some great musicians, learned a whole shit load about music, formed the basis of what could be/will be a band, got a job making the most money that I have ever made in my life and paid off my student loan.

08 has treated me well after 07 did its best to drag me through the mud.

Pretty good. I don't feel like anybody owed me anything and I don't owe anything to anybody save Amex. I worked my ass off and was healthy enough in brain and body to support my family.

This year, feel I'm getting old...and I am.

FUCK YOU: TIME.

These little baby deer and babies around me.

Savor it...Wait for it...

There is no savoring it or waiting for it.

There is just living it.

Then you go away.

And that's ok.

2008 was great.

I wanna find the New Years Resolution thread from this year because I think I accomplished everything I set out to this year. That's rare, so I think that makes for a pretty solid year.

I don't know, this year was just kinda there.

Last year I could come on here, be all melodramatic and say I'm a horribly depressed person whose life is a never ending series of horribly embarrassing and unlucky events and then there would be something about the constant reminders of my failures haunting me at every turn.

But this year I feel like a completely different person, so that could be a good thing. School is good, life is alright, I guess the year was good. It just felt like a blur for some reason, but whatever, here's to 2009, just like 2008 but older.

Debt like a mother fucker. Pretty much alone in life. Somehow they might garnish zero. I do have you all though and I take those laughs to the bank. (turns out laughs not even worth a ruble but I wouldnt trade my friends for anything)

mom almost died in February, but went to rehab and is "better" by March (not really better, in my opinion), moved in with my father, who is paying for college, which i'm finally at Fordham University.....so, more or less good.

The year started out alright. Then March-April came and everything went to shit. I got sick and switched jobs, taking a pay cut. Then I moved. I now work two jobs and am trying to settle. One of my friends killed himself three weeks ago. I'm still dealing with that loss. Not a great year, but looking ahead positively.

Positives

Started school, got a new car, Giants Win, Celtics Win. Met Ron and Fez. Became a Super Poster. Became friends with PaulO. Cousin got out of jail after 10 years My five year wedding anniversary.

Negatives

Year went by too fast. My job used the economy has an excuse to treat us like shit even thnough their sales still increased. My little sister got pregnant before I had a kid (10 years younger). A lot of my fish died.

Neutral

Last birthday of my 20's.

My year was good. I did not get a bonus but still have a job as my company had layoffs recently.

I bought an old 1976 motorhome (sign of getting old?) to go camping and do some tailgate partying in. I did not want to invest a ton of money in something I was only going use on occassion. ($1800)

This year has been absolute shit for me personally and professionally. Without a doubt, the worst year of my adult life. I would say can't possibly see how things could be worse in '09, but at this point nothing would surprise me.

good things of 2008:

Going back to school (PhD in curriculum development)
Having paid off my credit cards
Looking to buy a house

not such good things of 2008:

No longer working full time because of going back to school
Limited resources $$$ since September
my car being hit by a prick who lives in my building

All in all - I would rate 2008 as 10 popcorn buckets out of 10 popcorn buckets.

I took a sabbatical from ronfez.net, and got a girlfriend. I started running again lost 40 pounds, then she dumped me. I got a summer job in Boston which was great. Now i'm back in Buffalo for the last year of law school, which is kinda depressing. Ups and downs, but I can't complain. Maybe a 30 pack of PBR can cheer you up weeka???

Year started out terrible. Got better in May, got even worse than before August through October.

But the end of October I met the love of my life, and the girl i'm going to be spending the rest of my life with.

I've never had a year with such an amazingly incredible amount of ups and downs.

pretty terrfic

my son was born in january, and he's been a blast and pure bliss

joined a gym, started working out forthe first time and realized that age 34 i could run a mile ... and lost 25 pound

work could be better, and there's dozens of little thing that continue to annoy me to no end -- but they're fleeting and passing

2007 was the worst year of my short life.

2008 started well enough. Didn't do so well in school (lack of motivation), got fired from my job I had for awhile. Got a new job and then got fired from that. Damn economy. My car broke down and because lack of funds I haven't been able to get it fixed. My leg has been hurting a lot and I'm getting exhausted easy. But that's ok. I'm alive and for that reason, 2008 is ok.

2008 started pretty good. Couple of trips to Atlantic City. Left a bit above what I showed up with. Got to see Jimmy in January.
4th trip to the Indy 500. Great race, even better 4 day party.
2ne trip to the USBC Nationals (bowling tournament). This one was in New Mexico. Didn't bowl good enough to place in the money, but did get some cash in a side tourney.

Then July came around.

Broke my right elbow. Needed 2 pins and a wire to put it back together. Kills the rest of the summer going to the river with the kids.

August: Pop ends up in the hospital on his birthday. ICU. Pulmonary Fibrosis and blood clots on his lungs. Never leaves the hospital.
Passed away 2 days after my birthday (38) in September.
Rest of the year has been totally shitty.
FUCK THE HOLIDAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2009 better be good damn it all.

I've had better years but I know there are a lot of people who have had it a lot worse. A lot of little things really got to me and sent me in to a bit of a depression. However, looking back it was all pretty insignificant in the grand scheme of things and I wish that I had been able to take a step back to see that at the time. With any luck it seems like the year is going to end on a high point so I'd consider 2008 a draw for me.

2008 had it's ups and downs, but was over all stellar.

Earliest in the year my grandmother beat cancer.

I got to go on vacation to Boston for my birthday.

I got to go on vacation with my best and most closest girlfriends.

My grandmother almost passed away, but has since fully recovered and the whole ordeal brought my family closer.

I left a job that I've been at and hated for three years on my own accord.

I married the man of my dreams, the day was perfect and I couldn't be happier.

We honeymooned for two weeks.

His grandfather recently passed, which has been a challenge, but we got to spend time with him at our wedding which was important to us both.

I've moved on to the final phase of getting hired at an interesting new job, so I am hoping I like it, but won't know until January when it starts.

All in all I would say 2008 was wonderful. Only year that might have been better was 2006 which had less sadness.

status quo

pros: looking to buy a house so my wife and I can start having kids

saving money, was able to spend less and save more

had 3 or 4 kick ass Vacations

got new job

cons: lost job, may hurt mortgage chances in this tough economy

did not progress to house and kids , like we wanted to

less money made because of the economy

anoher year gone and its scary that I am 31

but best year since being married, we have hit our stride and ready for the next step

gambling drinking non saving hippo, may have been single

I got "downsized" for the first time as a grown-up but was able to start a new job (lateral move) right afterwards so not too much of a loss there.

My retirement accounts got hammered (down almost 50%) to the point that I thought that the ESD theory of fiscal management might make sense.

Enjoyed a year with no major tragedies amongst family & close friends.

Got to listen to another year of the best radio show ever (even with Fezzie's issues).

Lived long enough to see most of the country hate the current US regime as much as I do, and have some hope for our collective future.

Could have been worse.

Wishing everyone on RonFez.Net an excellent 2009.
