I had this happen a few times. After waking from a sleep, i've noticed that the area between my upper lip and nose is swollen. It's just the area of say where hitler's mustache was. It's not overly swollen that you can really notice it, but i also notice a slight tingling. It will usually go away sometime during that day. Then one morning I woke up, and I had swelling around just one eye and slight swelling/tingling in this lip area too. This too went away during that day. My guess is that it is some sort of allergic reaction, but I'm not sure. Or am i just falling asleep on my face somehow weirdly? I'm hoping its not something like Bells Palsy or something more serious. This has happened maybe 4 times total, with only just that one time that my eye was also swollen.
Thanks

This is odd because it only happens when you're sleeping, and apparently not every time.

I wonder if you snore and are flapping your lip as you snore, causing some trauma to the upper lip?

It's definitely not Bell's Palsy, which is a paralysis of one-half of the face caused by inflammation of a nerve ganglion hidden in the skull.

I suppose you could also be allergic to something in your pillow, or an animal that's sleeping on your pillow from time to time?

See if you can spot a pattern to this and I'll apply some more mental energy to it.

your friend,

Steve

i would maybe agree, but this has happened also one time when i fell asleep on the couch and woke up at 2 am with a swollen upper lip. and i'm always washing and changing my bedding. also, the times this has happened, i didn't have a pet. and it never happened when i had a pet.

I had this also..I thought it had something to do with a sinus infection I had...seemed to be worse then..

thanks Dr Steve, so far i haven't notice any pattern or anything. i just thought it was maybe an allergic reaction to maybe something i ate or drank that night. If it happens again, i will keep you posted.

maybe, i have only been "growing" this scruffy beard this year, so maybe that has something to do with it. but my eye did swell up too, so i don't know. maybe its my body warning me to stop being so unhealthy. maybe i should stop drinking and eating better. no, that can't be it :drunk:

When this happened, you didn't drink any of Dr. Steve's homemade corpuscle wine before falling asleep, did you? Because if so, that could explain everything.

Either that, or you fell asleep watching TNA wrestling, which has been shown to cause a variety of adverse events to viewers nationwide, especially when Don West is speaking.

This may sound like a strange idea, but maybe you're doing something in your sleep that is causing you to bite your lip? Maybe dreaming?

Just for the hell of it, why don't ya videotape yourself sleeping at night. Might catch something if its physical. If not, then you can narrow it down a bit.
