RS Top 50 of 2008 (http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/24958695/albums_of_the_year)
These Rolling Stone best of the year lists are generally aggravating. They always seem to have some older act in the Top 5 with an album that NO ONE has listened to (This year it's Bob Dylan's latest release at #2, in year's past I remember a Mick Jagger solo album being #3 or so). They also have a good amount of big sellers that didn't even get GREAT reviews originally from the mag in the top 10 (this year you can find Coldplay at #7).
At least this year there is a #1 I can get behind:
TV on the Radio - Dear Science.
Here's the top 5:
1. TV on the Radio - Dear Science
2. Bob Dylan - Tell Tale Signs: The Bootleg
Series Vol. 8
3. Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III
4. My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges
5. John Mellencamp - Life, Death, Love
and Freedom

I think the cred that indie sites or mags would get when they praise Lil Wayne is dead. At least I hope. Get over your guilt white writers, you don't like rap! Don't try to please all people.

I like the pick of Kaiser Chiefs at 21, the new album is not really different from what they've done in the least, but I can't stop listening to nearly every track.

That Lambchop's 'OH (Ohio)' isn't on there is just absurd. Whatever. Rolling Stone blows anyway.

Rolling Stone tries. Its lame but at least it gets people to think about music.
But even indie sites like Pitchfork RAVE over at least 1 rap CD a year that I know they don't like and they just do it because of white guilt.

i wouldn't normally care at all ... but i'm such a big fan of tv on the radio, i love that they're getting attention for such a great record ...i'm not sure how much weight it'll carry for them, but i think it's neat

They were album of the year in Spin Magazine for Cookie Mountain 2 years ago...I don't think anything like this will make them blow up, but it will steadily increase their fan base. Hopefully that support from fans will lead to a long and productive career.
I see online it's also been named best album by The Guardian, Spin Magazine, MTV and Pitchfork Media.
