I was having a very personal conversation with my best friend, and we were talking about the meaning of life. They've fallen on hard times and they just don't know how to handle it anymore. It's not a suicidal mindset, just a tired, exasperated one. They live day to day, but it's just longer each day.

I think everyones meaning of life is different. No two people are the same. Your main reason for barrelling through the day to day struggles can change.

What's your meaning of life right now?

Life is just a cereal. One day the bowl is full of life. Over time it gets emptier and ages until the life is no more and all you're left is an empty bowl.

If you believe in the after-life, it moves on to a new bowl called the toilet then disappears back into the earth.

I'm just trying to make it. Everyday is a new challenge. Look to those around you for support and you will never be left with nothing.

My meaning of life is to serve and help the people around me to reciprocate the help I have received.

I'm not putting myself up on a cross or anything but I plan on making changes in the field of education by working as an administrator and then working into lobbying. That's my way of giving back.

I don't believe there is a meaning to life. We're just some weird set of coincidences and accidents that collided, and now we're here. Why do people always search for meaning?

It's easy.

You're born

You live

You die

The only part of that you can control is how you live (well, and maybe how you die).

Probably because if a situation is bad enough, you want to know why you're suffering. The thought of it just being luck of the draw makes them feel that this is the life they have and they can't change it cause it will all go wrong in the end. So what's the point of continuing.

At least, that's what they've said.

Once you stop thinking about it, you can start living it.

I don't know...and I'm perfectly fine with that.

Knowing the meaning of life takes away from the excitement of living.

I think Furtherman makes a good point...stop thinking about it and just keep moving forward.

Just for the record, this thread doesn't have anything to do with myself. I was just intrigued to hear what all of my fellow 'netters had to say.

I am an eat, drink and be merry kind of guy. Be happy. I guess that's about it.

meaning of life is a relative thing

its relative to how much love you have
if you have a lot, then you dont care what the answer is any more
if you dont have enough; you sit around wondering why things are so hard
and how fundamentally unsatisfied you feel
so maybe love is the meaning of life
but its probably just a numming agent to how tough things are

I'm finishing Joseph Campbell's The Power of Myth, and he said there is no meaning to life. Rather, what we are seeking is the way to truly experience life to its fullest. That's why everyone has a different "meaning" to life. What things truly make you feel alive and experience it.

For me, it my kids, my wife and when I create something, whether it's a sig pic, a great meal, a great photo, a well written project, an idea that advances a case I'm handling, or even making someone laugh.
