View Full Version : Do You Revere Celebrities?
With the way our world treats those who have attained some level of fame and/or notoriety you would think they were another race of being; supernatural, god-like people with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men.
Do you get "star struck" when you meet one? Does it ever dawn on you they're exactly the same as everybody else except they have a job that puts them on TV?
I just don't get the whole idolatry thing people have with celebs.

I revere anyone from New Jersey.
And Paul Revere.

i think that recently, with all the shit that the country is going through, we are seeing which celebrities ARE revered. most celeb gossip is way down but shit like the madonna divorce is still the top story, right next to makoff.

Generally no, I treat them as I would treat any other person I met.
However if it happened to be someone who had a very big influence on me, then it might be different, but not cause they are famous. Just cause what they have done has meant alot to me

I've met the entire cast of 'kids in the hall' and been out drinking with Dave Foley a few times. They were quite humble. But, I do think that as a society we hold celebrities higher than everyone else.
I find it simply amazing that a teacher would lose the ability to continue in their chosen profession if they got a DUI/DWI but an actor/celeb gets off scott free in most cases.
Actually, going through it almost seems to be looked as a term of endearment because they are able to overcome something so difficult.
Common-folk just get looked at like it was a gigantic fuck up and they screwed themselves and they are not a productive member of the same society that hails entertainers and celebrities as the best thing since sliced bread.
Edit: My answer is no!

Can I have your autograph?

nah...
i used to as a kid but i think once you work with a certain number of major celebrities, their super-human sheen tends to wear off.
most of them were just in the right place... or bloodline... at the right time....

My mom called me and asked if I wanted to go to some thing for obama, of course I said no. It was then I realized that there was NO celebrity that I would go out of my way to meet.
Anyone I held a modest fascination with is dead.
I go as far as to avoid movie stars I like being themselves as not to ruin the impression I have of them from their acting.

Not at all, I'd rather piss on them than act like a fan.

I've met a few celebrities in my day and in general I treat them no differently. If it's someone I admire or look up to I will likely make a comment to them about it. I've had a few occasions where I didn't and just acted like they were normal people. I'd imagine if it were someone I idolized I would be be different towards them. A few years ago it happened when I saw Anthony at Bar 9, I've walked up to and talked to everyone from both shows with with no problem at all. Anthony I was nervous as hell and just froze there. I never had that before with anyone. I was nervous when I first met Ronnie too, but that quickly went away as he's such a down to earth guy.

I couldn't care less about celebrities. I hate all these shows such as access hollywood and TMZ. TMZ just yells crazy shit at people to try and get a reaction. I cant understand why anyone would be interested in this shit.
Only if they play guitar for The Rolling Stones.

I've met a number of celebrities, and while for the most part I treat them like anyone else, in the back of my head I do sometimes get the whole "OH MAI GAAH, IT'S BLANK FROM BLANKITYBLOO ON THE TEE VEE" thing going. I guess with the lack of aristocracy in our country, we're starved for someone to look up to socially, and here is a group of people who have attained nation- or world-wide acclaim. Then when we meet them by chance, there's a one-sided emotional investment that's been built up, so I can kind of understand why someone would lose their shit and squeal when they meet Jack Black or whoever.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little star struck. I think everyone is with the right celebrity/actor (Ron and Ricky Gervais, as an example). But revere? No.
One example. Yesterday I was at FAO Schwartz, and practically ran into Jeffrey Wright, who I have liked since Basquiat. I thought it was cool seeing him, but I didn't bug him. He was with his kid shopping and I was with mine. We went to the Barbie section without saying word one to him.

Leave odd letters to her and assassinations are impressive as well!

no i don't or try not to, and i agree with instrument. there are few people that i hold that high, and the ones i do are dead. example, i would kick a tom cruise or a paris hilton down the stairs to shake ablert kings hand. so i guess to an extent i do, and it depends on what qualifies as "celebrity".

I revere Tyler Hansborough. I wish I could have as much hustle and heart or be as scrappy or hard working as he is. Or as intense. Intangibles.
