So I finally got a little of the xmas spirit today. My cousin and his wife and kids came up from florida as well as my aunt and uncle from maryland for a very jauble family christmas. I usually loathe family and hate kids, but my cousin's 2 daughters (6 and 3) were so excited to be there. I barely drank which says alot because I like to be about two sips from blackout at family events. Anyone else have anything like this?

You know, for whatever reason it started hitting me today as well.
Had a little early Christmas dinner at my dad's, the kids were in great moods all day, the lights are all out, and we had ice on the ground this morning. I'm feelin' it.

Christmas Day has become rather bittersweet for me.. we use to go to my aunts for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.. Things happen.. and Christmas around here has been quiet the past couple of years. I still enjoy the spirit, decorations, food and wine.:drunk:
The nice part about it now is ,every year it's a little surprise and I don't feel forced into any obligatory holiday dinners.

I've had a hard time getting into the spirit this year. Money has been so tight, I wasn't sure if I could do much for the kids. Well, I finally have enough money, and I'm doing all the shopping tomorrow. I also wasn't going to mess with the tree this year, but I'm feeling better about it. I'm going to put it up tomorrow night.

Christmas is great because I get to spend time drinking with my extended family. And for that I am grateful. Forget gifts and shit, just food and booze with funny people I love.

Good deal PB. We didnt do gifts except for the two little ones and my grandparents (and dogs for some reason) which almost made it better. I am in a world of hurt right now but I laughed and smiled more today than I have in a few years.

I started getting it last night. My wife and I started watching Christmas Story once a year - I had to turn her on to it - and we watched last night. I'm usually falling asleep and don't feel like sitting and watching a movie but that was really fun. And I'm really starting to look forward to my son's first Christmas - even though I'm going to have to leave for work at 11am.

well nothing like that yet....last year i spend christmas alone and i even went to see I am Legend alone that day....this year ill be in PA with all my crazy family...and it will surely be much more interesting....
but the magic of Christmas has already been in the air for me among a few awesome things that have happened in the past few days....one really cool thing was i was working at NY&Company (which i do for the holidays sometimes) and i was helping a lady pick out a present and i made a comment that i loved this dress and i hope that i will buy it later....
didnt think anything of it until the lady handed me a box and left on the box said "Thank you for helping me, merry Christmas and God Bless" of course what was inside...the dress.....Ah the magic of Christmas!

Christmas has evolved into a dark, depressing event for me since the passing of my mother. All the family used to gang up at her house and celebrate the season but now - no one even sees each other during the holidays. i usually spend Christmas eve watching It's a Wonderful Life and crying my eyes out. What a douche!

One of our family care providers just stopped by in this freezing cold weather to give me a gift certificate to Applebee's as a holiday thank you, how nice was that?
I wasn't expecting it, but now I feel bad 'cause I didn't get her anything.

You cheap bastid, you can't spend the $5 bucks at Subway (via Wal-Mart)?
Btw.. the gift certificate is for $20 bucks, I plan on eating and drinking at least $30 worth.. even if it's shitty food.. so I guess you're plumb outta luck

i have done a good amount of crying lately for different reasons... but in the end, i have a beautiful tree.. i have a great job which i am actually happy at...family i adore... amazing good friends both real life and internet....and i have some extra inheritance cash to buy the kids, and some others, some gifts this year... i found the Christmas spirit even though i could have easily rejected it after the pain i have felt this year.
maybe it was all of the holiday music i was blessed to sing for audiences this year. maybe i am just becoming less cynical... for the most part.
Life is teaching me BIG lessons these days.... Christmas is way beyond gifts now. It's a mindset... and a desire to create smiles.... instead of just receiving them.
Yay Christmas!

Yay Christmas indeed....it will be here soon, and gone even sooner. I make it a point to wish almost everyone a merry christmas for the 10 or so days leading up to it....the suprised look on most their faces tells me that many people dont say it much these days, as if it were taboo or something. They seem to appreciate, and almost stumble over their words to respond in kind, as though they forgot it was ok to celebrate the birth of one of the most amazing, profound and peaceful figures in history.
So to all - MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I am happy for you. Mine will not hit until I go to my parent's house Thursday morning, at least that is how it's been since my divorce. And before I was married I was the same way.

I gotta say, I may not still be in the Christmas mood and spirit either. Likely blamed on my recent lack of money and changed professional situation. This made it tough to be in the mood when I can't really afford to buy a lot. I know it's all about the thought but my family always makes sure that everyone gets gifts and I can't reciprocate in kind.

I'm so glad you decided to put your tree up. With all the bad news going on in your life, it was the best decision.
And btw, I'm impressed with the gift wrapping job. Did you do it yourself? Sure you're not gay?
