Maybe it will shame them into quieting down instead of having the unconscious response of laughing at their own non-jokes.

In fact, I always have people say to me, "How can you say that with a straight face?"..
I think confidence has a lot to with it..
Imo, if you have to laugh at your own shit to let people know that you're trying to be funny you don't really believe in your ability to make others laugh..

I admit it, I laugh at a lot of my jokes "in real life" no matter how bad they are. I guess it is a nervous thing, or else it is my way of telling people "it's a joke, you should laugh". It's nice to be behind a keyboard because no one knows if I am laughing at them or not.

I find that my jokes other people find funny on this board are the ones that make me literally laugh out loud, that's how I know I have a good joke
