View Full Version : My "theft" of Ron's Lines

Before I'm crucified any further about this, since made it on the air -

Yes, I fully admit I used Ron's line about Lutherans worshipping Luther Vandross at a wedding.

I also admit that I didn't credit Ron.

My question is this:

If you're meeting someone, and you will never see them again, would you go to great lengths to explain who said the line, where it came from, etc? Especially if they are non-fans?

Sheepy is making this out to be a gigantic travesty, it was one throwaway line he witnessed.

And to continue the embellishment on this story, I didn't make people leave a wedding. Said wedding was pretty slow and everyone bailed after the cake cutting.

Ironically, no thank you cards have been received yet.

Melly Fridays?

Yeah, they got no christmas cards. What made it worse is that I upped the wedding gift we were giving them because they had an open bar.

Melly Fridays?

Not my side of the family. Relations of Sheepy's mom.

just say "as the great Ron Bennington stated..." and then add the lines...
They don't need to know him, but chances are if they liked the line they may look him up and become fans.

The setup wouldn't allow me credit.

Female: "Oh, are you catholic?"

Me: "My wife is. I'm lutheran.. *beat* Means I worship Luther Vandross. Or Lex Luthor. not sure which."

THAT'S what he's upset about

Much of comedy is timing and delivery.

So despite the "A" material you lifted, I'm sure that the jokes went over like a lead balloon.

there was room for it, you just didn't think of it that second.

and wouldn't the show be only half as fun if small meaningless arguments didn't get blown up into major discussions?

He did during the Jesus commericals comedy pyramid (http://www.ronfez.net/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=2238), I believe, which I think may be the greatest comedy pyramid ever.

As a study of human nature, I think you would have been better served to just let this go rather than make a bigger issue about it by starting a thread. Now everyone's going to go out of their way to bust you on it because they know it touches a nerve.

Good point. This is more out of annoyance for Joseph than it is for Ron or Fez. I actually cheered for myself in my office a little bit when I won.

Maybe coincidental?

The term you're searching for is "Incidentally."

It's neither an irony nor a coincidence that thank you notes haven't been sent, but it's an incidental observation. Fucking Alanis and that goddamned song fucked up everyone's idea of what's true irony and what a coincidence or incidental anecdote are.

(Incidentally, the lack of thank you notes also has NOTHING to do with the story at hand and I don't see why you felt the need to bring it up.)

Sometimes I'll preface with "my friend Ron likes to say" but I'll hijack Ronnie's lines like my own in a heartbeat.

there's actually a thread about people using lines from the show in real life. i think it's silly to expect credit to be thrown out in the middle of a line. maybe if they say "hey, that's funny" then you could say, oh i borrowed that from x.

i thought hippo got robbed, btw.

You seem like someone that solved their problems right there in Brainard.

Sheepy brought this up on air, this was a response on a fan messageboard.

maybe I don't get the reference, but that might be the lamest sentence ever posted on this board. You post so much, but have so little to say.

I usually use "chick" and "that don't make you a bad person" in the hopes that someone will actually recognize where they came from.

true - but sadly - I'm everyday friends in mild - mannered real life (when I'm not a superhero on the board) I'm friends with no R/F fans - although the day I spent fixing your sink might count - so Katja is my only R/F fan friend. Which is cool b/c most of you are beat-ass dudes.

a little off topic - weren't Ron and Fez mentioning some R/F gra-fitty? I swear when I took my trip to Boston and Cambridge I ran across an "Obey" stencil (Banksy style) and I thought - "oh - that must be some political thing up here that the Fez obey comes from" sure enough IT WAS FEZZIE ON A BUILDING!!

I felt like we were taking over.

He is dude.

Feel sorry now.

He's old and lonely and we kind of befriended him. Fucking apologize. This is like his sunshine.

Sorry Freitag. It's cool - we're bringing meals on wheels R/F style soon.

Peace brother.
