View Full Version : O&A can't leave XM early anymore!

Did everyone hear that this morning? That is one of the things that people complain about them the most....when they go "we don't have bosses, we can leave whenever" and leave at 10:30. They said the bosses are now listening and they have to stay til 11

And i liked how they were spinning it like its something listeners should be mad about. They were like "so now we don't get anything extra for staying after 11 but we can't leave before 11...now we are just going to leave at 11". Everyone knows that as long as something good is going on, they will stay.

Hopefully, no more days where I turn on my radio and they are doing the 6-9 show and i'm like "cool, they are live today...no need to bring my ipod" only to hear them skip out on the XM show

The show has defintely been sub par of late...the merger def put the screws to them, but they are collapsing like a house of cards. Their routines have grown "douche chillingly" tired (except guests like Patrice, Dipaulo, etc), and they are clearly fat that sirius management can easily cut.....

Perhaps they got knocked off thier golden child cloud and can start producing good radio again.

I wonder if they will be back in '09....the irony being that they didnt have the chance to say "moms box" at the end of today's show.

It is always fun to hear them O and A rant.

I heard their new SIRIUS studio will be close to OUTQ's. That could be interesting.

Will Ron & Fez share that studio with O & A? If so, I am sure Fez will like.....ummm, never mind.

I think that's why there were two recent shows that ran way long. They'll constantly point to those like they were the norm instead of the usual 25 minute walkover with a 10 minute break 20 minutes later before a 10:30 departure.

ya know, i intially became an xm subscriber to listen to OnA uncensored and all the madness that would ensue.

Before i know it, they sell out to go warm Howards chair over at KRock (for the money and access to an audience) Now, my xm investment becomes a hour and a half bullshit show of guys complaining about how they cant wait to get outta there.

They got shitty ratings at KRock, and the vibe at xm is definitly slipping.

Umm their contracts state that they stay until 11..In the last month, they have stayed past that about 10 times averaging 20 min overall..that's 200 minutes of overtime, or 3 hours and 20 min.

does it count when only one stays longer?

I have noticed the after show ads where O&A announce R&F and vice versa.
They also had a lot of recent shows where one of the opposite show members visited the other...and they reference each other and play segments from the other show a whole lot more
I think they are definitely moving closer together and especially the Christmas show Opie put on after Ant left today pretty much showed that they realize it is important to cater to the listeners, no matter how often they say fuck you all, if you don't like it we don't care.

What show are you guys listening to? Other than the last few weeks, they almost ALWAYS stay till 11:15. Granted, the last few weeks they've been acting like they're on the mat. But can you blame them? Their "stepbrother" gets to do whatever he wants , at probably 10 times the salary . So THEY are what needs to get cut to get the company stocks up? I think they're hoping to run out the clock until H is gone when his contract is up , then they'll be seen as a cheap alternative( and maybe they'll get the boot off their necks a bit)

202/197 is starting to become a drag. O&A are funny when they're not on their "everyone is against us" rants... And the R&F show has been hit-or-miss lately. How is Fez's constant crying on-air going to be received in the Sirius building in 2009? Howard is gonna have field day with that crap! I work with a Stern fan who is just gloating over the fact that his man won once again. Howard does commercials for the Sirius/XM product on commercial radio and never brings up O&A once. He mentions Scott Ferrell, Bubba The Love Sponge and Jackie Martling, but he can't bring himself to utter the words 'Opie and Anthony.' Sirius is slowly stripping away the O&A identity, piece-by-piece, so that it is another bland talk show that can't compete with Hoo, Hoo. Eventually that will drive them off the platform completely, probably by their own undoing. They may hold on to the terrestrial thing at that point, but what happens to our Buddays?.... AGAIN! They always hitch their wagon to O&A and end up burned by it. All of Fezzie's problems started when O&A imploded on WNEW and they were banished to D.C... What will happen to him if 202 blows up?

Yesterday's show was funny - Krock played "another one bites the dust" right after they left for XM.

Also, a couple weeks back, they had some very lame boring caller who they kept on the line for a while, after they all left she was still on air and ended with XM side with "YMB".

Remember when Mel Karmazin sat in studio with O&A shortly after the merger? He made it abundantly clear that Sirius would prefer the Opie & Anthony Show was heard exclusively on satellite radio, and that he didn't see an upside in giving it away for free on terrestrial radio as well.

I think O & A know full well that they're going to have to sacrifice one for the other, and they'll spin it whichever way creates what they believe to be more interesting radio.

good point. I think if there is anyone out there listening to XM or Sirius that hasn't heard RnF, it's probably because as soon as they hear "best ofs" they switch the channel and don't stick around. It is unfair for RnF. Luckily, I knew of them from my undergrad days in nyc and if it weren't for secret methods, I would have missed the 2 years at WJFK. But, not everybody had that opportunity.

I think this is an extension of the burying of O&A that XM started last year after the Homeless Charlie incident. When all that went down, XM took a bunch of O&A's pictures down from the web site, and even when they came back after suspension, it seems like XM quit promoting them. Even now, if you go to the Virus' page on XM's web site, you'll see Ron & Fez on the front page, not O&A. It seems to me like O&A have done everything in their power to alienate themselves from corporate, and it looks like it might be their undoing.

Both shows are on the website. But that's beside the point, XM doesn't need to promote them as much. If they aren't known, it's not the fault of promotion. Also, since the merger talks began, promotions were cut across the board because soon it was going to cross-promotion between the two services. Notice all the sirius promos on XM? The same is happening with the sirius only listeners.

No matter what though, Fez Whatley will survive!!!!

I wouldn't care if they went to only 10:45 or God-forbid 11:00, if they would actually do a show in that time period. The XM show starts late, has a 20 minute wind-up of complaining, and then generally has one decent break of something (or at least an attempt at something). Then 20 more minutes of "lets get out of here," and a dwindling to nothingness. Give me an hour and a half of solid radio and it would be a vast improvement. I have totally forgotten about the XM only days when it was HOURS of a decent show.

There's one show on the Virus that can handle having paltalk in studio and another that can't. Anthony cares more about looking at girls than doing a good radio show, so yes, paltalk should be removed for the good of the show. And speaking of math, why not drop the paltalk sub and pay for Sirius-XM? The company is right to cut off people who don't feel like paying for the service.

Although they may not mention paltalk by name as much, the majority of content of the show is still geared toward a visual medium. I want to listen to a radio show. I couldn't have cared less about the lawyers blocking the anal beads up Patty's ass. This type of shit is only appreciated if you are trying to entertain a televised audience. we have a whole thread on anthony and that website, u should check it out

what frustrated me was..i dont mind racial humor...but Anthony had the perspective that if you see black people as human beings you are being a "phony white person". I hated that. He was raised in a white trash family and in that family its fine to throw the "nigger" word around, but thats not everyone. I say "fuck" and "shit" in front of my parents, but if i said "nigger" in front of my parents (and we're not black) they would scream at me. Its the way i was raised

Now that i'm living in the midwest, sometimes i do experience the white people sitting around and one mentions the "Nigger" word and they all start joking around...throwing that word around, i don't care, but i do view them as white trash. I'm just like "oh they are white trash, ok, fair enough"
