Why do people comment?

I hate it when I wear a T shirt that has some kind of saying on it and people will stop me, look at it and repeat it aloud and comment on it.
I have never done that. The only thing I have ever done is maybe if I saw a shirt that had something really cool or different and witty on it, give the wearer a compliment. I never read aloud what's on the shirt. What do people do that? Do you find it annoying when people do it to you? It is almost like they are mocking you.

I get this a lot when I wear anything related to World of Warcraft. People ask questions and I just tell them to go home and do a google search.
