About every 5 months I have to wash my hog building. After a group is sold it needs to be washed and disinfected from floor to ceiling before the new pigs come in. The building is 245x40 feet. It usually takes two days of power washing with shit splashing everywhere. I wear a rain suit and mask over my mouth and nose, but eye protection either fogs up or is covered in crap instantly. I dig gunk out of my eyes for the next couple days.

Anybody got any good ones?

And before any of you doctors check in, I don't know how you deal with the shit you do.

Kids? How about the adults. Nothing like holding a molar in place (because the bone levels are shot and all that is holding the tooth in the socket is the PDL and granulation tissue) while I'm scaling said tooth because the patient refuses to perform basic oral hygiene. I love it when people say "I won't floss, it's YOUR job to clean my teeth". Eww. I have a few patients that before I treat them I go down my mental check list- "If I scale the tooth out, I will just fold some gauze, have the patient bite down on it, and wait for the Dr. to come into my treatment room". Seriously people, floss and brush.

Worst part of my job, one of them at least, is when I come in and a co-worker leaves their kid's, wife's, girlfriend's, etc. personal computer with a note of what's worng with it. Thanks, there nothing more I want to do than work on your home PC in my spare time.

I had a guy that left the PC with a CD-R drive and a note that said "Install Drive, Thanks"

He would come into my office 3 times a day to see if I was done with it yet. I let it sit next to my desk for about 4 months until one day I came in and he took it back.

The kid should start brushing his teeth on his own before he goes to college.

It s a good idea to get him to the dentist when he cuts his back teeth. they can do sealants etc to protect teeth . Plus you want him to get used to seeing a dentist when its a fun experience without trauma. He can get used to it and if he eventually needs any work like fillings etc its not scary on the first time hes there.
As far as pediatric dentists they seem to be a great thing for apprehensive kids but a good nurturing general dentist can handle it as well.
As to brushing you can share brushing as long as he'll let you. you'll probably do a better job but the kids need to get the sense that its an important thing to do. Get some toothpaste that tastes good it helps.

People are strange. Yes, flossing is boring. But if you develop a routine it just becomes another thing that you just don't think about. We have one patient that comes in for monthly cleanings because he just refuses to do more than brushing. There are also a lot of misconceptions and old wive's tales regarding dental health that people continue to adhere to. I have come across a few women patients that believe you are supposed to lose a tooth for each pregnancy you have. Some patient's think it is okay if baby teeth get cavities, since they are going to "lose them anyway". Some days I really want to :wallbash:. All I can do is try to educate and hope eventually I get through to them.

Use whatever you have. Waxed is easier to get through tight contact areas, and tends to shred less. But it's all about patient preference. In school, they taught us to go with what the patient is comfortable with. If they want to use yarn, let them. I was a Glide girl myself, but now that they got taken over by Crest I am disappointed in the quality, it's just not the same. Back to J&J for me.

When I played rugby back in the day we had a motto If you do it in practice you'll di it in the game. The same thing a pplies to baby teeth . You gotta take good care of them even thoght theay are going to be lost. learn good habits from the beginning. And letting a kids teeth rot should be punished as child abuse. All you do is set a kid up to hate the dentist and the pattern will continue through their life. I know its only teeth and not brain surgery but it does matter.
