Please say it isn't so although you pretty much said you'd do this.

Raiders fan at opposing team stadium?

Yeah, I'm sure he was sipping tea with his pinky out.

If some rent-a-cop tried to handcuff me a football game for rooting for the away team, he had better be ready to fight.

I doubt that he was some kind of Black Hole maniac. His e-mail was well written and respectful, that should be some kinda insight into his behavior.

Security guards can't handcuff or put people in holding cells. Only real cops can do that, and I'm sure this guy deserved it.

Yeah, I know, which is why I wouldnt hesitate to punch one. If/when I get cuffed by a real cop, I dont resist because, well, they have guns. But the guy said he was cuffed by "stadium personell."

The game went without incident up until the first score of the game by the Raiders. I stood in celebration, and before the extra point was even kicked, I was being led away by stadium personnel. Once out of the stands, I was placed in handcuffs, although I was not resisting the stadium personnel's requests, or read my rights and placed under arrest. I was lead to a single person holding cell where my possessions were removed, and I was subjected to a full body frisking. After being detained for roughly 30 minutes, I was released outside of the stadium, and informed that I could not return to the stadium.

Shit sounds wrong to me.

That sounds a little extreme.

Not if he was drinking before and during the game.

I know quite a few sensible, intelligent people who turn into blithering assholes after they've had a few.

The story is missing some stuff here.

I understand the need for security in a stadium, and for fans to have access to notify security if they see a problem.

But they should use some discretion.

If someone makes a report, unless we're talking about assault or some other criminal act, then security should come to that section and keep an eye on the suspected offender, and use their own judgement on whether further behavior warrants removal.

And even then, in most cases, they should be given a warning to stop first.

Sounds like Tampa security acted on a tip from another fan, came to the section, saw a fan in Raiders gear standing and cheering after a score, and escorted him out.

This is a fairly new policy at most stadiums with "text reporting", so I'm sure that with more incidents and bad publicity like this, they'll show more restraint.

Otherwise, fans will continue to abuse this to have opposing fans removed for cheering their own team.

Consumerist isn't known for it's highly accurate reporting. They've screwed the pooch on fact checking before.

His biggest problem was asking what he was being detained for. Without a reason he doesn't have a leg to stand on. I would have been asking for names, information, etc.

Sober people would get this information if they thought they would be wrongfully detained.

And this POV I can see too. Security just saw a Raiders fan and went apeshit.

to start a fight in a club because I dared stand up front toward the stage.I don't drink.I was alone.I complained to club bouncers, and nothing happened as I expected.I was just there to enjoy the show. They were drunk assholes, and drunks pay money to go to clubs and see shows. This was before cell phones 1980's. Disregarding our own person who should be ejected above, it appears that Deadspin has cracked the case... and it's looking like I was right.

According to some local reports he was sloppy drunk and spewing endless profanities, some at specific fans, in an area heavy with kids. If he had been in my section he would've gotten a hell of a lot worse than handcuffed and ejected, so in my opinion he should consider himself lucky that he got off as easily as he did.

Just had to post that pic in here.

They still don't clarify whether the stadium security or the Tampa police witnesses any offenses, or if they acted on a complaint from another fan.

If it was the latter, then IMO they were still out of line.

Give the guy a warning (as well as to his buddies who allowed this to go on, and maybe get some peer pressure on him to shut his trap before they're all booted), keep an eye on the situation, and then, if it happens again, take action.

When your team is losing, every opposing fan who's cheering seems obnoxious and offensive, especially in your home stadium. Security and PD's should be able to determine whether the behavior violates policy or law, or is just hurting some pussy fan's feelings.

I for one, being the biggest fan of the Eagles ever, am currently in a state of loving the Oakland Raiders. As for the Bucs fans, losers:))) Sorry Fez, but you do get an exemption for being on the best radio show ever!
