Hi Dr. Steve,

After having a poop (technical terms only) occasionally my nose will slightly run. To clarify I am still sitting on the bowel having just expelled the last torpedo and bam the nose begins to run. I eat pretty healthy so i'm not straining nor is my stool to loose. I just find it funny that this occurs.

I know what you have, but it won't help much. The technical term for this is "Post defecatory rhinorrhea" which simply means "nose running after you poop". See...the human body is an amazing and varied thing, and when something happens we've never encountered before, we can still come up with a really cool sounding term for it that SOUNDS like a diagnosis to the layman's ear, but really is just a description of the problem in medical terms.

I did a pretty thorough search of the medical literature, and heck, the whole internet and couldn't find squat. In saying all this, I'm assuming you haven't had any head trauma or any other weird things happen. If you have, go tell your doctor about it. If you see blood, see someone. If it gets worse, let an ENT look up your nose. See if it happens under any other circumstances at all (that you might not notice at the time...when you're dropping logs you notice stuff because there's not much else to do) and let me know!

eh, I could dazzle you with theories about histamine release and cranial nerves and stuff, but honestly, I'm stumped.

I already knew about the Lupus. It's such a minor infrequent thing that its not something I'm gonna worry about. Maybe a release of sinus pressure was a better way of putting it.
