I have NBA TV and outside of the Sunday night game, it pretty useless.

As for the NFL Network, I believe Cablevision and Time Warner are both in a stalemate with the NFL. From what I read the NFL wants to be placed on the basic tier to maximize viewership, while both cable companies feel that its a niche product. I hate to agree with my cable company, but they are right in this case.

Channel 87 on Verizon Fios. But when I pull it up it is a blank screen. However, the guide lists shows. Right now is some show called "The Making of a Classic." Coming up next is "Penguins Classic."

The NHL network is great. Hockey Night in Canada, plus about five minutes of highlights per game on their recap show.

If they carry the god damn golf channel on basic digital, then they can carry the NFL network.

If they carry the god damn golf channel on basic digital, then they can carry the NFL network.

You are correct that the Golf Channel doesn't fit the parameters of the "basic tier", but I'm sure the cost is so cheap that it allows them to move up into the basic setup. The NFL Network is widely estimated at approximately $1.20/month per customer which is a goddamn joke for a basic tier channel that realistically only gives you 8 out-of-market games per year and offers obvious sub-niche programming.

The NFL needs to get over itself and accept their placement next to NBA TV on my digital sports tier where they belong.

Most cable channels carry Golf channel because they (Comcast, others) have part ownership in it. MLB network will also have partial cable operator ownership, this is why it's being offered to more customers earlier on. NFL, NBA, and NHL networks have no cable ownership and are being dicked by these companies.
I agree that I'd rather have any other channel over golf channel.

I absolutely LOVE that the MLB Network essentially launched with this question:

Harold Reynolds: Given the moves the Mets made this offseason, does that cause you to view them any differently?

Jimmy Rollins: No.

That and Jimmy's assertion that Cole Hamels 'lost his damn mind' had me rolling.

why do rollins and amaro keep saying we had Wagner last year, so getting K-Rod doesn't matter? we didn't have him for the last 2 months of the season.

It's not like they were pulling away (and if I remember correctly, Florida and Philadelphia led the division for most of the year) when they had Wagner, though.

And that's the point they're making.

Signing a closer doesn't flip the division, in their minds.

Mets fans will argue the statistics from the 6th inning on, and that a closer helps fix that, but I think that's a bit of a flawed argument.

That argument is based on the assumption that everything else stays pretty much the same. From my vantage point, the Mets have worse starting pitching right now, than they did at the end of last season, and have done very little to solve their middle relief (I personally see Putz, based on what I saw of him last year, and the Mets' very own version of Tom Gordon, in terms of his likely contribution).

And then you have to look at the contributions from guys like Delgado, Tatis, Easley (who got some huge hits)...is it realistic those guys match up with last season's production?

Maybe you get a little bit better season from Reyes and Wright. Maybe Murphy works out.

But I still see the Phillies as the clear favorite right now, on paper.

Now, if the Mets lowball their way to Derek Lowe, and Manny falls in their lap because of the market....then things get interesting.

i would make that argument if you could somehow put 2008 f rod and putz into the mets 08 bullpen but you cant

and its unreasonable to expect delagdo or tatis to duplicate their performance
delgado will be what he is and prob have his numbers dip again as he is on the decline
reyes and wright will baring injury give you their normal production

but the unknown quotient is immeasureable at this time

what can you expect from a full season murphy ??
who fills out the rest of rotation and replaces perez if he doesnt resign ??

also phils dont have burrell and its unlikely lidge goes perfect again but overall they are still the better team

K.C., you usually post some great, unbiased stuff, but you are off here. First off, Putz in September was ridiculous. Once he got back form his injury he was nasty, and 2 years ago he was probably the best closer in the game (numbers wise).

Secondly, you mean to tell me if the Mets had Wagner in September, they would have blown there 4 game lead? Maybe they would have, but I think they wouldn't have given up 6 runs in the 9th against the Phillies in that one game

They not only got a closer, they got a shut down 8th inning guy. Both are elite closers in the game.

More from Wright and Reyes? Really? I'll take what they did last year any day of the week. How can you down play those guys?

I agree with you on getting the production out of tatis and finding easley's numbers somewhere, but i think Delgado finally got ehalthy, and we should see fine numbers from him.

The key I think is Church. If he can be what he was the first part of the year, or close to it, i'll be happy. Offense was not the problem with this team last season. It was the pen.

You say they have the worst starting pitching, but adding Lowe or Ollie, plus maybe a wolf or redding, changes that quickly. I still think they offer Lowe 3/42 and it should land him.

Muprhy I think will end up being the everyday LF, even against lefties. Unless they go out and sign Manny, which I don't see happeneing. I still like Dunn or Burrell.

But I agree the Phils are the best team. They won, Mets have to knock them off to lay claim

P.S. MLB Network is fucking amazing
