WTF!!

These idiots have already been there for hours.
They will be there another 7 hours.
The temp is plummeting. (-10 wind chill tonight) I froze my balls off just shoveling for a 1/2 hour.

Can somebody please tell me what the attraction is?
I just don't get it.

I presume that some of the idiots who go there are drinking heavily. You cannot bring in anything with you and who wants to wait on those ridiculous lines to use the bathrooms?
Stupid.

people from the south midwest and midwest, see NYE from Times Square every year from their TVs

they have equated NYE to a sporting event or huge concert, so they flock over to the east coast, pay way too much money and freeze their asses off

anyone there from NYC or the tri state area should be shot on the spot

What is even worse then being their so dam early, you have to stay on the sidewalk..you enter at 37th street and if you want to leave you have to walk up to 50th street. And if you want to come back in..you have to go all the way back to 37th street. I wanted to do this when I was younger, but now, forget it. Me and the lovely misses will be going to a nice dinner at a place in Brooklyn NY, 4 course meal, open bar and I hope good company.

Should be fun and hope the wife will understand my drunkiness...I will understand hers.

Have a fun everyone and be safe, but drunk.

I went in 1999 and I will never ever go again. I was there for 5 hours, it was cold as balls, and the entire time I thought someone was going to steal my wallet or puke on me.

Fucking hayseeds

That shit is so fucking lame, and you can't even watch the ball drop on TV like everyone else in the world does.

And these fucking dorks wearing their 2009 glasses... What are they gonna wear when it's 2011? A monocle?

well comparing the crowd size since the evening news started at 5 till now when it went off the air, the crowd has gotten smaller.

I went in the 80's when I was just out of high school and got caught in a gang fight. Didn't get hurt, and went down to the Village where the bartender sold us a joint, and we sat on a stoop drinking out of paper bags and watching the show. Good times.

Flash forward to 2009: those aren't just hayseeds. They are EUROPEAN hayseeds. Remember, the euro is still trading strong against the dollar. The city has been overrun with European hayseeds for a couple of years now.

Good for business, I guess, but you can't get down the street in some neighborhoods anymore.

I went 2000 into 2001, it was awsome! I was completely smashed(I went the last year you could bring in liquor) and I pissed in the empty bottles of "snapple" we had. We met cool peeps from three or four different countries. Saying all of that, I would never do it again.

my 2 experiences with Times Square on New Years:

First time, when i was in college, we left a perfectly comfortable bar (where we actually had 2 booths) at 10:00pm on a whim to go to Times Square. The closest we could get was 50something street. We couldn't even see the damn ball!!! this was before the whole place was locked down as much as it is now, so there were plenty of sloppy drunks who could not maintain for sh!t. what a waste of time!

Second time, a few years ago, i had to work til 11:30pm in midtown on New Year's Eve. I got out of work, and even though I was in the middle of the crowd, i couldn't care less. I had to practically get police permission to cross 7th avenue to get to the train to go home.

New Year's Eve in Times Square is for Non's.

I've lived within an hour from NYC my whole life and have done my best to stay away from it.
Not only do I not see the appeal of Times Square on New Years Eve, I do not see the appeal
of Times Square on any day of the year.

It's pretty much a fucking shit hole.

I've never known one midwesterner that went to or even talked about wanting to go to NY for New Year's Eve and I have pretty much lived in the regions you mentioned my whole life.

So I am not saying you are wrong, just saying every person I have ever met is too smart for that shit. Most likely meeting me is what makes them so fucking awesome.

i think its funny that people complain about other people going out in the cold.

I know when i went out to shovel snow i was never cold, knowing its cold outside, you put on warm clothes.

wtf.

anwho, hope they have fun! ever since 9/11 i've been terrified of something happening to those folks.

Funny how people look at things differently.
You're terrified of something happening, yet I look forward to it.
