They've had a bare bones DVD out for a while but I think a new one w/ bonus materials is coming out around the time the new movie is released to the theaters.

It's actually a very underrated early 80's slasher movie.

Growing up I always put it up there w/ Halloween as far as good non-supernatural horror movies.

It has a really catchy ballad that plays at the end that I hope they keep.

If you like 80's horror you'll enjoy this.

Another good slasher from the 80's is " The Prowler ".

It's on DVD as well.

Considering I'd only be watching for about three and a half minutes, I think I could manage.

I was gonna say that.
There's also "The Burning" (with a young Jason Alexander)
"Martin" a vampire flick.
any movie that had SFX by Tom Savini...
I also look forward to a "Slumber Party Masacre" remake...

Here's the ballad from the original that plays over some scenes from the film :

I wanna say that I thought Paul Young, the short cowboy from the Smokey & The bandit movies, was the singer.

Yeah it's catchy.

There's also "The Burning" (with a young Jason Alexander)

Yeah I like this one too.

It was on one of the cable channels during October.

There are a few actors in it that became famous and psuedo famous.

Holly Hunter

The bully is a guy that played one of the NYPD big wigs in NYPD Blue.

The douchey guy that's trying to nail the innocnt girl is a guy who's been on the Law & Order family shoes like 100 times ( plays a lawyer a lot but also was the suspect in one of the CI episodes ).

The head female counselor was actually the heroine in Friday The 13th Part 5.

Fisher Stevens who's played in many things but only his role in Short Circuit 2, as the Indian guy, is jumping out at me.

He's actually in a lot of random stuff.

He was in some short lived FOX show called Key West or something back in the early '90s.

Jennifer Tilly was in it.

The thing that always made no sense to me was Why did they have a Valentines Day Dance at an old Mine?
I seem to recall a a bad one called Mothers Day.
And a lot of now famous actors were in slasher films:
Kevin Bacon- Friday the 13th I or II
Renee Zelwieger And Matt Mcognehy(sp) Chainsaw IV
Viggo Mortinson-Chainsaw III
Johnny Depp-Nightmare on Elm Street

I saw the original when it came out, but none of it stands out in my mind other than the fact that at least some of it takes place in a mine and a really bloody chick comes out of a dryer at a laundromat.

They wind up moving the dance to the mine, technically the rec room of the mine, because the town outlaws any celebrating of the holiday. It's originally supposed to be held in a hall.

You guys really have to see the original.

It's at times predictable although I will say I do not remember predicting the ending.

There isn't a lot that happens, other than some actions by characters, that you really question and say " That's ridiculous. "

Has a decent number of onscreen killings as well as some off screen ones but not overly gory ( great scene in the laundromat ).

I remember always thinking the killer might be one of the main characters you kept seeing during this era of slashers.

In the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre I thought that the kid in the wheelchair was gonna be the killer/Leatherface.

" Madman " is another low budget slasher that's pretty good and also has a catchy ballad at the end.

I seem to recall a a bad one called Mothers Day.

Yeah this was a bad flick but worthy of a watch if you haven't seen it in a while.

It's in that vain of " I Spit On Your Grave " and " Last House On The Left ".

Almost a little too over the top with the female abuse but it helps to build the tension for the climax.

Great scene w/ some bleach if I recall.

When the end comes you're really hoping the antagonists get theirs.

Viggo Mortinson-Chainsaw III

I think he was also in a horror movie called " Prison ".

I haven't seen that in years but remember a cool scene involving some barbed wire.

Looks like they changed the name of the town from " Valentine's Bluff " to " Harmony ".

Not sure why they'd do something like that.

I just saw the trailer for this again making it close to 15 times in the last few days.

I've yet to see the one for " Friday The 13th " either on tv or in the theater.

Nothing exciting.

To be honest I can't remember.

Oh some romantic comedy w/ Rene Zellweger ( sp ?? ) and Harry Concik Jr.

Looks like it might be OK to watch w/ the wife or g/f .... but only on video.

I watched the original today.

Still a very good flick.

I hope this new one doesn't take too many liberties w/ the plot.

I'm pretty sure it leaves out the love triangle part though.

Has anyone seen the re-make yet. I saw it tonight and wasn't that impressed. There were some cool special effects, but that was about it. I was also expecting 3D glasses which we didn't get, so it's not really in 3D, at least where I saw it. I started nodding of near the end of it. Now I want to see the original, to see if it's better than the re-make.

You need to go to a place that plays it in 3d.

http://www.reald.com/index.php/page/12

You'll get your glasses at one listed there.

Otherwise it's just a 2d movie.

We went Friday night to a packed theater and it was a load of fun. The movie was total shit but it was total shit with 3d flopping boobies and goofy pickaxe thrown in your face madness. Guts flying everywhere and other nonsense coming out of the screen. We really did not expect much more than a campy gore fest and that's exactly what we got. Everyone in the theater had a lot of fun with lots of screams and yelling. Was good times.

If it was in 2d it would have been worthless but the 3d made it an amusing night out.

I am trying to get a copy of the original so I will report if I ever do see it, but, the new one is getting a 73% right now at RT which is shocking.

http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/my_bloody_valentine_3_d/?name_order=asc#contentReviews

Horror movies usually get in the teens or 20s so having it score so high must mean something good. Or maybe it's that no one expected more than a gore filled cheese fest and everyone was satisfied when that was exactly what was delivered.

Review by the wife here:

Movie was awesome. Go if you want nothing more than 3d guts, gore, and tits. It's an hour something of yell at the screen horror movie stupidity. Don't go if you want a stimulating plot and oscar worth acting. Don't go to a 2d theater, find a 3d one from the link above, we had to drive about 40 minutes to the closest one but it was worth it. It's a fun date movie.
