Here's an article with the top 50 films coming out in 2009 with plot synopsizes. A few that look good to me, besides the Quentin Tarantino movie:
#16- A new Terry Gilliam film.
#7 - A new James Cameron film.
#3 - Star Trek

ok here are films that interest me during the first look through of the 2009 films wiki pages
"The Watchmen" - gotta see it, but i just read the graphic novel and it looks exactly the same
"This Side of Truth" - Thats the new Ricky Gervais movie that co-stars Louie CK. i'm sold
"Bruno" - new Sasha Baron Coen Borat-y movie
"Terminator Salvation" - maybe it will make me forget about T3
"The Year One" - Harold Ramis directs Apatow regulars in a movie about Jack Black in biblical times
"Funny People" - Judd Apatow directs Seth Rogen and Adam Sandler doing stuff
"Inglorious Basterds" - cuz Quentin Tarantino rules
"Where the Wild Things Are" - don't like kids movies, but i'll see anything with Spike Jonze's name attatched
"Fantastic Mr. Fox" - see above but replace "Spike Jonze" name with "Wes Anderson"
"The Lovely Bones" - so far i've loved everything Peter Jackson has done (and i loved King Kong more than any of the Lords of the Rings movies)
"I Love You Phillip Morris" - a movie about Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor having gay sex in prison. From the people who made "Bad Santa" i'm curious!
"The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus"- everytime Terry Gilliam gets a film completed its a miracle so it must be seen
"Public Enemies" -Michael Mann directing Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in an old school Gangster Movie, sounds great!
"Shutter Island" or "Ashecliffe" - whatever its called, if Scorsese is directing i'm interested
Movies that i have no interest in seeing
The New Star Trek - fuck that
The New Harry Potter - fuck that
The New Sherlocke Holmes - fuck that. everything Guy Ritchie ever made sucked
"Not Another Not Another Movie" - the title gives me horrors
"Alone in the Dark 2" - is that for real?
"A Christmas Carol" - Zemeckis next CGI weird thing that will suck
Fame re-make - ew
"Transformers 2"
"Gi Joe Live Action movie"
"Land of the Lost" with Will Ferrel
"Angels & Demons"
"Night at the museum 2"
"pink panther 2"
and finally
"Fast & the Furious 4"
so it looks like its going to be a year of high and lows. and there are also a ton of films not on my radar yet and films that i feel indifferent about (like the Woody Allen film with Larry David). Looks like we'll have to wait and see!

The Limits of Control - Jarmusch and Bill Murray
Whatever Works - The Woody and LD movie (there's a picture up at yonah schimmels!)
The Tree of Life - Terrence Malick and Sean Penn, if it makes it out in '09
Coraline - Possibly for Neil Gaiman
Antichrist - Lar Von Trier does a horror movie. The devil is real.
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans - Because there is no better director then Herzog
Notorious - The Biggie movie - Completely serious about that
King Shot - Alejandro Jordorowsky - metaphysical gangster movie - Produced by David Lynch!
Tetro - F.F. Coppola and Vincent Gallo. I'll give it a shot
Plus - Watchmen, new Wes Anderson, new Gilliam and new Tarantino (if that happens).
Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans - Because there is no better director then Herzog
I love the strangeness of Herzog, but the thought of Nicholas Cage & Eva Mendes sucking on screen together again frightens me.

Lock, Stock was OK and Snatch was great, even if it was very Tarantino-y. I don't think I've even bothered with anything else of his since he made that shitpile with Madonna.
Watchmen is easily #1 and I'll definitely check out Transformers 2. I did nerdgasm during the first one just because I've been a fan for 20 years, but it didn't really hold up upon repeated viewings. Devastator on the big screen should make it worth eight bucks though.

best way to describe those movies is to say they are very "Boondock Saints"
X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Mall Cop(yes, I said it), and Transformers 2.

I agree that the idea is frightening but if Cage wasn't capable of fulfilling this role (and surely he wasn't), then Herzog knew it tried to make a great film anyway. I completely trust Herzog to make it work - remember, he is a man so determined to capture his vision he literally dragged a riverboat over a mountain. Nick Cage isn't gonna get in his way. Who knows he may have wanted a shitty actor in the lead.

More Human Than Human may be the single most overused movie trailer song ever. And I love White Zombie.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G.I._Joe_(film)
* Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Cobra Commander: Destro's shadowy, masked boss.California. Levitt described his vocal performance as being half reminiscent of Chris Latta's voice for the 1980s cartoon, but also half his own ideas, because he felt rendering it fully would sound ridiculous. He will wear a new mask, as the crew found the original too reminiscent of the Ku Klux Klan, and prosthetic makeup underneath the mask.
And here is your Destro:

I just hope there's one that's 90 minutes or less.
The trend of 2 hr and 45 minute movies is maddening.

I don't have a problem with a good popcorn movie. My only problem is when people *ONLY* watch popcorn movies and then tell me how great they are.
Enjoy your glasses!
