The last store location in my area just closed this weekend, the fourth in the last two years, so I was wondering if they finally went under or are they still withering away nationwide?
I don't care, good riddence I say, that store sucked ass, and I love Netflix, but I would find it interesting if the giant that Blockbuster was finally died.

Blockbuster, Movie Gallery, and Hollywood video.
all still alive.
I think mostly in poorer neighborhoods those places still do pretty good...when i drive by BB on the weekends its still crowded.

That's interesting, yeah the last Hollywood in my area closed down I think close to a year ago. Don't know about Movie Gallery, not in my region I guess.

There is a newer one a couple of blocks away from my place. I have no clue how it stays open as I've never seen a car in the parking lot.
Oh well, not my cash.

We still have BB here, but the up and comer is Redbox. It's a dollar a day, and you can reserve the movie online.

I rent games to make sure I like them before I buy it. Especially now with most games being 60 bucks.

word up. i agree.. rent before you buy.
also; redbox is the up and comer.. but they have such a shitty selection. kinda hard to be awesome with such limited space.

I rented four movies from a Movie Gallery for $1.09 AND they accepted my credit card. I took two of them back on time, and the other two I got stolen out of my car when it got broke into.
To replace "Kids" and "How to lose a Guy in 10 days" (I was in the doghouse) cost me a total of 15 dollars.
How in the hell do they make any money??
Good thread, I hope someone works at one and can explain how they make enough money to pay the light bills.

I'm guessing it's a front for money laundering.

Theres one like every few miles in Pinellas county.
I think they're concentrating more on the Netflix style.

The Blockbuster in my town does pretty good business. It competes with Hollywood Video and some good sized independents.

Wow. After the Madoff thing, and just watching three seasons of Weeds, I actually believe you right now.

There's one in my town that I went into a few months ago looking for the first season of Dexter on DVD. It was quiet and empty in there with only one employee on duty and they didn't have what I was looking for. The place looked doomed.
