I tried to have the tail when I got my first real "fancy salon" cut in Ft. Lauderdale in 1985. Though it was long enough to reach the base of my neck, my hair was so curly, it just popped back up into the rest of my hair. THANK GOD!

I had my tail bleached when I was over in England summer of '84. I thought it was cool. Than later that year at a high school football game, a drunken friend came up behind me and yanked on the tail, hard. He pulled some hair out. The tail got cut off pretty soon after that.

I am pretty sure this trend got started on Survivor. One guy did it to his hair to try and look scary to the other tribe in a challenge and then it just seems to have exploded from there.
I could be wrong, but I just thing it looks douchey.
