i had actually never heard this one before but i saw it on some ID channel (great channel!) show the other day called "crazy bitches", wait, it might have been called "wicked women", no im pretty sure it was "crazy bitches"...

anyhooooo everyone probably knows this one but me, 16 year old girl goes nuts and shoots up a school across the street from her house in 1979, and less than a month later the boomtown rats perform their song "i dont like mondays" for the first time (in San Diego where it happened no less, thats kind of messed up) because the girl said;

"When the six-hour incident ended and she was asked whom she wanted to shoot, she said, "I like red and blue jackets". When asked why, she shrugged and replied, "I don't like Mondays. This livens up the day."[1] She also said, "I had no reason for it, and it was just a lot of fun"

she said later she was drinking and drugging before she did it, i would like to believe that she was but who knows... fucked up story.

The week that incident happened, I was in LA with my family on a vacation. I remember reading about it in the paper the day before I went to the California World Music Festival. This show was primarily middle-of-the-road rock (Aerosmith, Van Halen, April Wine, Eddie Money, etc.), but the third act of the day was this new band that did not fit in at all. They were the Boomtown Rats, and it didn't go well for them at all but Bob Geldof gave the shit right back at the crowd.

I thought they were fantastic, and immediately bought their debut album. A few months later, the album with "I Don't Like Mondays" was released, and Geldof's various interviews about the song indicated he read that same news article I read.
