Why do people fear the end of the world? There would be nothing left, why care?

i just wanted to ask - is it just OUR world: planet Earth? or is the entire universe ceasing to exist? i wouldn't flip out as long as i would if it was the universe that was coming to an end. i feel like, when the planet earth ceases, i would freak out because we should be able to live on other planets.

If you find out it's happening as it happens, then yes that sucks. I want at least a month or two notice for rape and pillage time.

It's the exact same thing as dying, if it happens suddenly, of course, who cares, cause you will be blinked out of existence (consciously) so who cares what happens after you're dead. I think the problem is if we know there's a cataclysmic event pending then we are fearful, just like if you are terminally ill and have to deal with the fact that you'll be dead soon. Simple really.

Definitely rape, pillaging is a plus. Id much rather have it go out in some wacky anarchist state. I want a chance to go ape shit on people, fuck sitting around waiting for an asteroid or some shit.

Asteroid is the best way to go. The pros definitely outweigh the cons. A virus or mass disease would be awful. You'd have dead bodies rotting all over and corpses being burned and whatnot.

If Yellowstone caldera blows, that would be interesting as well.

Your telling me sitting, waiting, staring at the sky watching death slowly fall to Earth is better? Asteroid wouldn't be immediate depending on how close it was to you.

Disease still wouldn't be that bad because you might still have a fighting chance, board yourself in your house and shoot anyone that comes near. Or book it to the woods in Canada or something.

i agree. natural mega-disaster is the way i hope it goes down. disease and pestilence would take too long and be pretty gruesome.

in a weird way, i hope it happens in my lifetime. that way, my final thoughts could be happy, knowing that none of my own excesses would be the cause of my own death, and the salad-eating, no-fun-having, run-10-miles-a-day doofuses would've wasted their lives for nothing.

it would be great for a few minutes bashing zombie brains out of their heads with blunt objects. but being overtaken by the massive hoard i believe would be pretty shitty. i also wouldn't enjoy the prospect of being a staggering, mindless flesh eater until my head was later bashed in.

Naught.

I think sitting and waiting for the end would be the worst, unless you were close enough to whatever disaster. I would want to be trashed on all kinds of drugs and alcohol to make it easier but i wouldn't want to upset my loved ones by being belligerent before the end. Thats why I think going out with some kind of fight or false hope would be better.

That's an impossible concept. Don't worry.

I just don't want there to be like a natrual disaster or something. And if there is, I don't want to survive it. I don't want to be the guy that has to figure out how to get clean water, or how to get plants to grow without sunlight. That's not me.

It's something to worry about rather than the real shit going on in our lives. It's more fun to worry about the Yellowstone supervolcano than it is to worry about the fact that your job could go away any day now.

If the world does end, though, one thing I'm going to do to have a little fun is go around to Christians and say "OK, Jesus is gonna be here any second now, right? You're gonna get raptured out of this any time now, huh?" Then me and my band of savages will kill some of them for meat, and enslave the others.

I mean, I wouldn't do that now. Except for the making fun of Christians part.

They would be much more satisfying kills, but it would also be pretty fucking terrifying. I just want to kill really, but not have any morality issues about it.

My friends and I talk about that a lot.
It would be cool if humans had a common enemy. We always thought an Ogre type creature, that is very slow. But, if it caught you, it would kill you. So you'd have to be on guard constantly,

I guess the thread meant end of world as in the shit blows up. Its over.
What we are talking about now is a break down of society. Has this thread been ruined?

Not if we get off!

The trick - it seems, is not commiting suicide in the process.

At the same time, think if travelling to other planets and experiencing other things and on and on - until you've done it all - what then? You'd want some clean water, fresh air, blue sky, solid ground and a few trees I'd imagine and all would be well.

Well look at that.

Haven't seen you for quite a while
I was down the hole just passing time
Last time we met was a low-lit room
We were as close together as a bride and groom
We ate the food, we drank the wine
Everybody having a good time
Except you
You were talking about the end of the world

I keep thinking of a really terrifying scenario ... would love to see it portrayed in a movie one day.

It's a scene where Earth falls out of its orbit - but the focus of the scene is that short span of only a few seconds where all shit breaks loose as the Earth no longer maintains its proper distance from the sun.

It ends with everything freezing and the atmosphere disappearing and everything not nailed down floating off - total slience.
