View Full Version : I saw a shooting tonight

Let me preface by saying I don't think anyone was actually shot.
I was going to my friend Terry's house in Newark and I was at a red light on Tremont Ave and I forget the cross street. I heard a loud POP up the block to my left. I looked left and saw a bunch of people scattering while a guy on the sidewalk fired 2 more shots in their direction. I didn't stick around long, as I'm sure you would guess, but all still seemed to be running after that. I fuckin took off so I dont know the result of it, but an hour later when I drove by there were cops all over stopping cars and shit, so I guess they never caught him. Didn't see any ambo's or anything like that.

My house is not safe for him. Generally when we chill out we smoke and have a couple beers and shit. I live in Mahwah. He is black.
In fact, the cops harrassing him is the reason he chose to move to Newark. So that people leave him alone, oddly

I've seen a couple and never stuck around, even when I was a paramedic off duty. I love how the idiots can't aim, I hate when their fucked up aiming misses the intended target and hits an innocent. The most scare I was the idiot with the gun was standing not 5 feet from my truck aiming in the opposite direction. I could of stuck my gun out the window and shot him with my eyes closed. But why invite trouble when you can speed off?

I mean obviously I just took off, because who the fuck would stick around a shooting. But I can't like, I had a weird feeling after. I wasn't scared or anything, especially since I was already like 5 blocks away but I guess I had like an adreneline rush. I dont think it was in a good way, but I definately had a strange excitement that wasnt nerves or fear, almost the feeling you get when you are running from a shooting or cops in like GTA. It was almost fun cause I finally had that excuse to drive HOWEVER I wanted

To be honest, this was the first time I'd ever seen any bad shit goin to his house. Usually its pretty chill, and most of the people i go past or come across seem to mind their own business. I feel alot safer there than I would have expected, kinda even after this. Especially on my friend's block. I dont even lock my car when I park on his block

The company I work for is in Newark, right across the street from the projects. Thankfully I only go into the office early in the morning and leave within an hour.
One day last summer as I was pulling out of the driveway three triple-decker buses pulled up to the projects and swat teams emerged, with helmets, vests, rifles, and dogs. I never saw anything like it.
I got the hell out of there before I got caught in the crossfire. (bonus points to whomever posts the SRV video)

guns or gunshots have that funny affect on us... it's like "instant death" is near
i was in a bar and the third seat from the corner. in the corner was a stack of 'bud can cases' almost up to the ceiling. there was a "pop" and several cans on different cases blew open.
i looked and said WTF? i thought it was a defect from the factory
my friend. sitting on the 'corner end' later told me the bar owner leaned over and dropped his gun and it went off, the bullet ripped through the cans of beer. just a few feet from where we were sitting
guns are intimidating

I used to see the aftermath of shooting and stabbing quiet often when I first moved to the city. I remember once walking home from the train and seeing the street literally covered in blood after a stabbing.
And the last place I lived, I'd hear gun shots a lot. Someone shot out the windows of the building across from me once.

It just takes one lucky stray shot to hit the mark and then they can track you by the trail of blood in the nice white snow.
And, hey . . . let's be careful out there.

My wife works in Newark and I hate that she goes there. Luckily if she's working late she'll get a police escort to her car, or I'll drive her in and pick her up myself.
Anyone ever notice in the morning by the park off Broad Street there's always like 25-30 people standing in a circle for no reason whatsoever??

I was on a golf trip at Myrtle Beach long ago and was walking around the boardwalk area late one night. A guy came running past me and jumped the rail over on to the beach. He got 20-30- feet away when a gunshot was fired by a police officer - hitting him in the back. i almost dropped from the noise right beside me - damn it was so loud. The guy never moved again - probably shot in the backbone. Next day the paper said the suspect had shot his girlfriend (she died the next day).

So would I!
When I was in college I witnessed a drive-by shooting. One bullet shattered my roommate's car winshield and another bullet hit about three feet above my head of the window I was looking out.
I didn't even know all this until I went outside and saw the car. Then the cops came over and pulled about four bullets out of the side of my house.
I made all three local news networks that night.
The shooters were caught a couple weeks later in Florida.

I go to about 15 games a year. What does traffic have to do with safety? I drive from North Bergen and take the Pulaski and have never hit unbearable traffic. Plus all that "pedestrian traffic" is what makes it kinda safer. The area around the Prudential Center has got to be one of the safest places in Newark.

white elephant?
Older Prudential employees (or retirees, at this point, I guess) call the big, white building on Broad Street the "White Elephant" building to distinguish it from any other Prudential office in Newark. I think that there's a smaller one in either the Gateway complex or down by IDT, but I don't leave my building if I can help it, so I don't really know.

All that pedestrian traffic actually makes it easier to be pickpocketed.
You're also on the way IN from a decent spot. I'm on the way OUT and deal with street closures, redirections and random pedestrian crossings. It stinks.
