i just watched his interview on pbs with rose
he was articulate, very intelligent but he was humble and a man who could admit to his mistakes and his own short commings
and he talked about walmart wasn't the evil corporation and made a very clear argument for a health insurance mandate(making it illegal to not have health insurance)
he was everything that i expected him not to be
really turned me around
is it just me or does every body that goes on that show want to be the good guy. There's never a truly bad guy that goes on his show except trump, and even then i almost like trump. He brings out the best in every person he interviews; but this one was especially impressive because of how much i disliked this man imparticular going into it, and how drastically different if felt about him after the interview.

It would be difficult to change my opinion of Walmart, solely because of their China operations and exploitation. In fact, most US companies that moved to China for manufacturing pisses me off.

Just sucks the way Walmart pays their employee shit...didn't they have a law suit against them about unpaid overtime?
SEEYAYAYAYAAA
When Walmart begins to compensate their employees like Costco does then maybe I can start to respect them.

Ummmmm........... I assume you live in the woods and hunt your own food then? NOTHING is made in north america anymore. No one (yes, that includes you) wants to pay for north american made. They want to pay 1.29 for a t-shirt. No one wants to pay $10 for a pair of underwear when they can get one for two dollars at Wal Mart.
What kills me even more is when people get all huffy about things made offshore but work for companies that export anything anywhere.
Around here there are a bunch of people with bumper stickers that say "Out of work yet? Keep buying foreign". I bet $100 that they all used to work at a place that made something and exported a portion of it all over the world - but thats OK. It's OK for american and Canadian companies to export because it is "good business to diversify" but everyone vilifies aian countries that do he same thing.
Bottom line, stop paying american auto workers $25an hour to sweep sloors and clean toilets, and start keeping some jobs.
Oh, and for God's sake shit can the unions. These guys have been redundant since the 40's - they are just stealing from their members.

I have to disagree with you there I go out of my way to try and find products not produced in China its not always possible but can be done for example yesterday I was in staples and bought a ream of recycled paper made in the US and a paper cutter also made in the US I did not get a stapler that I needed because they were all made in China
The reason I think people are concerned about Chinese goods is that they do not meet the same standards and quality cut major safety concerns and treat their workers like shit
Economically China devalues their currency in order to made goods from China cheaper then other countries, Has practiced "dumping" or selling goods at lower then the cost to manufacture and does not enforce copyright protection on software and looks the other way with regards to piracy and knock offs
All these reasons are why I make a point of trying to avoid chinese goods

walmart has fresh fruit, canned goods, tires, and fishing gear. you can get your toenails painted while your husband gets his eyes checked. you can have a $5 footlong from subway and get you tires rotated. it is a 7/11 on steroids. it never closes and it never runs out of foldgers.
i think the southpark episode explained it best. walmart is the american dream. unfortunately, this dream is a nightmare.

Your assumptions show ignorance. North America huh? My two trucks are Fords, made in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. You know those little stickers or request that you can get from dealers that tells you where everything was made? I got one on both. My beer is made in Houston, my bottled water comes from Ft. Worth, TX, my shoes (New Balance) are entirely made in the US, both pairs of boots are made in the US, my silverware, my dishes, hell even my ceiling fans are made in the US. My truck storage box, my ax, my chains, my Craftsman tools, etc. are all made in the US. Where do you come off with such a statement?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: When in the bloody fuck did it become a crime for a blue collar worker to earn a livable wage in this country?
ryno1974

When your "livable wage" became grossly inflate in comparison to the work being done. You ant janitors and 7-11 clerks o make $25 an hour? No problem, as long as the wage for skilled labour or management goes up accordingly. But that is not good enough for many people. They want the guy that clean the shit house in a food processing plant to make more than a supervisor because its not fair that he makes more - even though he went to school and bettered himself.
As for all the stuff stated above that is made in the us - good for you. If that's what you ant to do, then great I can appreciate that. But just make your choice and move on. There are too many that want to see companies like Wal Mart shut down for offering another choice.
I personally dont agree with all your statements about China, but I do agree about some. Is he quality lower? Sometimes, but in many cases it is balanced out by the price. So your socks wear out twice as fast, but they cost a quarter as much. Do I ant the same thing in my food? No. I am in the food manufactuing industry in Canada, and am proud of the quality products we produce. But we need to work hard to keep the qualty there and the prices in check to keep everthing in blanance. We DO xport products to Asia. They expor some to here. The better run (long term) company will prevail. If its not us its ecause our customers made that decision for us. Its not because of a dark menace from Asia.
good points though, I'm impressed no one has bashed the shit out of me for disagreeing yet.

MMMMmm $25 a hour...I would not mind that. And as for skilled labor, do you know the skill it takes to get dried shit off a toilet with out getting any on you..it is fuckin rough.

I do find it funny that people (usally conservative republican types) who are anti-union have a problem with bashing Walmart a company that directly and in-directly puts money into the communist party of Chinas hands

Win-win.

I resent that. We haven't had to wear the blue vest in years.
