Phycisists are coming closer to saying that our perception of time, space, reality is not just relative but is all illusion.
Here is the gist of an article I read this morning suggesting we exist in a hologram:
The idea that we live in a hologram probably sounds absurd, but it is a natural extension of our best understanding of black holes, and something with a pretty firm theoretical footing. It has also been surprisingly helpful for physicists wrestling with theories of how the universe works at its most fundamental level.

It gets better.
Until I talked to Nick Bostrom, a philosopher at Oxford University, it never occurred to me that our universe might be somebody else’s hobby. I hadn’t imagined that the omniscient, omnipotent creator of the heavens and earth could be an advanced version of a guy who spends his weekends building model railroads or overseeing video-game worlds like the Sims. (http://www.nytimes.com/2007/08/14/science/14tier.html?pagewanted=1)
But now it seems quite possible. In fact, if you accept a pretty reasonable assumption of Dr. Bostrom’s, it is almost a mathematical certainty that we are living in someone else’s computer simulation.
It's the human ego that keeps us "grounded", whether it be we're here for "a reason" or "we're special" like our mommies and daddies told us as children. But is there any basis in reality for that assumption?
One thing is for certain - not enough of us think along these lines. We eat what we're fed too quickly, too easily and too mechanically.

I love that all of that stoner dormroom talk about the universe being a molecule in a giant's toenail is sounding less insane.

I don't know the term for sure, but Bostrom's theory seems like a case of Mankind being so confused/scared by Its own technology that It begins to Deify the technology.
Sure, who hasn't thought about the universe being an infinite series of fish and fish tanks? Wolrd in a world in a world in a world.
I honestly doubt his theory would stand up to much scrutiny.
Also, a philosopher that throws out percentages based on his "gut feeling" seems a bit questionable.
Interesting stuff, nonetheless.
Edit*-Sorry, I totally skipped over the first article and topic of the thread. Ignore me accordingly.

Wtf does qtf mean.
Pot talk becomes scietific when the people involved have a doctorate.

ha! I really am slow at learning the ronfez.net codes and acronyms. I meant that I completely agree with what Furtherman wrote. I'll stick to just writing out what I am trying to say. I could have sworn there is a three letter acronym "QTF" that means I agree with this post. never mind.

Anyways, thanks for the article - work was getting slow today!

Yeah, I pretty much came up with this same theory a few years ago while working on my sweet motorcycle. No big deal.
