Patrice is full of shit, but the book opened my eyes to do more research into what they were saying. I just eat healthier and more balanced now. I'm not basing my diet fully on what they say, because I know that one person says something and someone else says the opposite. It's the "eggs are good/eggs are bad" thing.

Protein Deficiency is a major problem though, and you'll hear Partice talk about it for hours on a later show he will be in-studio for. He's always been full of shit though.

They said earlier that Anthony is out sick. However, I didn't start listening until 7:15 or so and they might have given a "real" reason earlier in the show.

And it's still in their contract to cancel the show if one of them is sick, but Opie realizes they are in a precarious situation - plus they had Fedor scheduled in-studio today and that is a really tough interview to get and/or reschedule.

Plus, the show can still be really funny with Opie, Jimmy, and a comic or two, so why not put on a show and keep the bosses happy?

I think Anthony is a very funny fella. That said, his racist tirades really have worn on me. Honestly, they just bum me out. Am I wrong for thinking they have escalated? I know Anthony would say that I'm a just a guilty white guy who doesn't have a sense of humor about race. Not true. Making jokes about race and racism can be and often is quite funny. There just seems to be a tenor of the "slighted white guy" behind Anthony's rants that makes it difficult for me to find funny. Just my opinion.

Although in the years since coming to XM Anthony has shown us more and more of his true personality, and devolved on-air into a frothing, gun hoarding, ranting and raving right-wing psycho racist, to me there's no denying that he is indeed a comedy genius.

He's smart, clever, and funny; and probably the most talented person working today when it comes to voices and vocal impersonations. I know that most of the characters and impressions he does have been kicking around for years, and he hasn't really come up with any new ones in some time, but no one is better when it comes to doing Andrew Dice Clay, Tom Brokaw, and my personal favorite - Dr. Zachary Smith.

Anthony makes me laugh every day - listening to Opie usually just makes me cringe. And I don't mean in the 'cringe radio' fashion Opie revels in, I mean in the mangling-the-english-language, struggling-to-read-and-pronounce-words-at-a-fourth-grade-level, and horribly-lame-lines-that-just-aren't-funny way.

I'll give Opie his due as the guy who helms the show, and has dictated it's content, feel, and direction all these years. But I think that vision and creativity would make for a great executive producer calling the shots from behind the scenes - not on-air talent. If there was no Anthony, I would never have listened to The Opie Show more than once. Which, I'm convinced, would still be a music show with no off-the-cuff talking; and Opie's contribution would be limited to giving out song titles, time and temperature, local announcements and hitting the post.

You have invested a great amount of thought into this and I respect that. I will concede that Anthony is genuinely funny when he breaks out character or when he acts natural with his quips.

Opie, in my opinion, does offer a decent amount on-air. Perhaps this format has passed him by and he would be better off finding home with a different style. When he "acts funny" he fails. When he just acts normal and tells stories, like this past week about his mother, he brings a fair amount to the table to be discussed.

Don't get me wrong - I love the show, and have for years; I've been a daily listener since they first came to NYC and WNEW from Boston. I bought my XM radio the day it was announced they would be returning to the airwaves (along with the hope that R+F would follow suit). I get the show, and Opies place in it; I love the format just the way it is.

It was just Opies little aside today, alluding to the fact that he sees himself as a genius, that had me commenting. As I initially posted - Opies genius is in the fact that he was able to grab ahold of Anthonys comet and be the tail in his wake; not that he himself is any great talent. Opie has readily admitted that he couldn't believe that Howard Stern had the opportunity to snatch up the comedic radio talent that is Anthony and didn't do so. Opie was just smart enough to see the golden goose and snatch it up for himself.

Although in the years since coming to XM Anthony has shown us more and more of his true personality, and devolved on-air into a frothing, gun hoarding, ranting and raving right-wing psycho racist, to me there's no denying that he is indeed a comedy genius.

He's smart, clever, and funny; and probably the most talented person working today when it comes to voices and vocal impersonations. I know that most of the characters and impressions he does have been kicking around for years, and he hasn't really come up with any new ones in some time, but no one is better when it comes to doing Andrew Dice Clay, Tom Brokaw, and my personal favorite - Dr. Zachary Smith.

Anthony makes me laugh every day - listening to Opie usually just makes me cringe. And I don't mean in the 'cringe radio' fashion Opie revels in, I mean in the mangling-the-english-language, struggling-to-read-and-pronounce-words-at-a-fourth-grade-level, and horribly-lame-lines-that-just-aren't-funny way.

I'll give Opie his due as the guy who helms the show, and has dictated it's content, feel, and direction all these years. But I think that vision and creativity would make for a great executive producer calling the shots from behind the scenes - not on-air talent. If there was no Anthony, I would never have listened to The Opie Show more than once. Which, I'm convinced, would still be a music show with no off-the-cuff talking; and Opie's contribution would be limited to giving out song titles, time and temperature, local announcements and hitting the post.

Just sayin.

Yeah, I agree; the meeting of O+A worked out well for both of them. And through the years I've thought that if they hadn't hooked up, then the only people who would get to enjoy Anthony's humor would be his friends and family.

That sounds like an interesting prediction. However, I think that you wouldn't see Norton and Opie do a show solo. Opie and Jim don't bounce things back and forth as gracefully as Anthony and Jim.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Jim do a show on his own with another comic.
