Patrick, Arelis, Jeffrey, and Melissa bring their special brand of entertainment to your eyes and ears tonight.

Tonights game: Keep a count of how many cigarettes are smoked by the hosts tonight.

It's on Paltalk at 10:30. Opie Live Room.

It might be on HearUsTalk, but no confirmation from me on that - Jeff?

Wait - which other sister? Dizzy or Catherine?

And by Crossover, I'm thinking Ron Bennington. Or Al Dukes.

My offer to bring pizza and booze over still stands. A little midnight special.

We will not be on hearustalk.com tonite. You can hear us on Paltalk. It's free. Mac users can use the Paltalk express version. Signing up takes seconds and costs you nothing. The basic package will at least get you our audio stream.

We will try to get a web based video stream up as soon as possible.

Last night was a little uncomfortable.

I personally think pooling money is a bad, bad idea. Liz and I worked out a budget when we were living in the apt, and then another budget when we moved the house.

I remember, because when we paid our rent, we paid with two checks - one from Liz, one from me - that the old lady in the property management office was aghast we didn't have a dual checking account.

I handle all the finances in the relationship, so every month, Liz gives me a set amount to pay for her share of the mortgage, her car, etc.

The only issues we get into are buying food, because sometimes Liz feels that she does too much of it, but it works out in the end.

The only issues we get into are buying food, because sometimes Liz feels that she does too much of it, but it works out in the end.

I think it is always wise to have one shared account that gets money deposited from both sides (and with direct deposit you can have it deposited into as many accounts as you want from your paycheck) for all fixed household costs. Put together a budget and add in a food budget as well. Have fixed costs on autopay and the rest is for food and you can see at the end of the month if you stuck to the budget.
I just started using Mint.com (I think someone posted it here) and it really breaks it down nicely and automatically categorizes your expenses.
It is normal that up to 75% of all income goes into fixed and budgeted expenses but then each has their own money still.

My ex wanted to split things based on income and his expenses while living in my house, so cause he had his own house, another kid and student loans and was making less than me he end up paying the daycare and was supposed to pay for food which became less and less as time moved on.
I pretty much paid everything from mortgage to my car and both car inurances, clothing for both kids and most of the time when we ate out. It was far from fair and caused a lot of arguments.
Having a set grocery budget too helps to stop that arguing, yet sadly he did not agree and never went for it (just one of the many reasons why things did not work out).

I know people in the PT room kept saying that he is just a provider... blah... that term is so old and out of date. Times have changed and I hardly ever see the situation anymore where a man provides for their family entirely.

<------ Regina lost her job back in June. She worked for her Uncle for a few weeks but that stopped when his business overseas got slow (he always does until March). She may go back to work for him, she may not. We don't discuss it much I make more than enough and I am starting my own business which she will help me with. Once we have a kid later this year or early next year, I want her to stay home and take care of it and the house while I go to work and run my business. I may be old fashioned but I just wouldnt feel right with handing my kid off to nanny or day care every day.

Tenbatsuzen

I think Jeff does have an outdated view of modern relationships, and whether this is because it's a bit for the radio or he's trying to be funny around his wife, he has to understand that words can be hurtful.

I think Jeff recognizes that he has an issue with this, as he admitted on the air, but I think he was trying to make good radio and not realizing that his wife may not have fully been in on the bit.

The biggest fight Liz and I ever got into, outside of the "New Brunswick Gang Rape Fight" was when I made a joking comment to Ron about Liz's hand surgery in Liz's presence. Ron got pissed, but Liz was livid. And it was the flashpoint for me to understand that shit like that never flies. Ever.

I also didn't understand Jeff's feelings about being emasculated because the wife made more money in the relationship.

Liz made more money than me for the first five years of our relationship, and it was never emasculating for me. But I think that had more to do with the fact that I loved my job and Liz hated hers.

This is something that Liz and I are thinking about. I do not want to have my kids in daycare. I am hoping that we can work something out with both of our jobs, that we can try to have at least one parent working from home, as I work from home a few days a week, and she works from home a few days a week.

My sister in law also suggested taking care of the baby, and that is something we can work out too.

I did not have the option to stay home with my son and I dont regret it one bit. he is not shy and does great in social situations, he makes friends easy and has learned a whole lot more at the daycare than I could have taught him at home. BUT I also grew up like that. While In East Germany everybody was making limited amounts of money at the same time everybody had a job. There was no unemployment and it was natural that kids went to daycare after the weeks allotted to the mother by the state to stay home and bond with the child.

Either choice is fine and not bad in the interest of the child's well being.

Money has been used as a weapon in our relationship since we got married and moved into this house. Almost every single problem in our relationship stems from money and resentment due to money. After last night, it's been agreed that it has to stop.

I don't like showing emotion in front of people. Ask anyone who has known me for a while, I consider myself a compassionate person and generally a good friend, but I'm not the warm, fuzzy, let me tell you about my feelings type. So last night was uncomfortable for me.

I think I felt more confident than I really was, about what goes on the show. I thought I was ok with everything being discussed, and it usually goes well, and can make for great discussions. Sometimes though, it's taking your biggest fights, your most dirty of laundry, and your rawest feelings, and suddenly putting them on display to not only a room full of people in person, but another 100 listening in a room, recorded and available for download, no less. Suddenly it can feel like this argument which is so painful to you, is just fodder for a podcast, which is how I felt last night a little bit. It's something I'm still trying to find a balance with. While I really enjoy the marriage stuff that comes up on our show, I don't know if I enjoy being as open with a serious issue as I was last night.

If anything, last night brought this issue that has been eroding our marriage to the surface, and it's being addressed. Sorry if that was at the expense of the people who listen to our show. I have no idea if that was something interesting to listen to or not. I'd rather get back to lighthearted talk of asshole hair maintenance.

When you said that your marriage was just fodder for a podcast, that was the cringiest moment of all listening last night.

It did make for great radio, but you also have to toe the line between great radio and damaging the relationship.

It's good that the money situation is now being addressed. Money is one of the biggest things that can hurt a relationship, which is why Liz and I try to keep our finances as separate as possible.

Even though legally, her debt is mine and my debt is hers, we have all of our debts separated and we're responsible for paying out our own debts with our own money. The only "shared" expenses we carry are the mortgage, cable, and power.

I'll be honest, I didn't hear the show...but from what I've read here I guess it got a little ugly. Sorry to hear that.

I think that's why the "nothing is sacred" school of thought isn't a great one to subscribe to. As real as the Ron and Fez show gets sometimes, there are still certain aspects of their personal lives that the hosts refuse to disclose, and I don't blame them. Sometimes personal matters are just that.

That being said, I hope everyone involved has made peace with whatever came up on the show last night.

All the best to you guys.
