What should I deep fry?

Need some ideas here.

Tomorrow I am going to the annual deep fry festival hosted by a friend of mine and we need some more ideas of stuff to dip in funnel cake batter and deep fry.

This we have on the list so far:

White Castle cheeseburgers
Pizza
PB&J sandwiches
Candy bars and cookies
Bacon
Potatoes

What else should we put in?

I tried then when I was in high school, all the cheese melted off and it just ended up as fried crust. Although if you bread it first, it might come out alright.

Make your own batter, for the love of god.

It's not hard. Get some seltzer and a little flour and VOILA! you have batter:

Combine:


2 cups rice flour (can also use sifted AP flour)
1 tablespoon baking powder
3 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper (or to taste)
1 (12-ounce) can soda water
1 large egg, lightly beaten


Combine the dry ingredients in a large bowl with a whisk.
Combine the egg and the seltzer and then add to the dry ingredients. Whisk until smooth.

If deep-frying anything "wet", dredge in flour or cornstarch to coat. Shake off excess and dredge through batter ... then deep-fry.

The dredge step will help the batter adhere to your choice of food.

And if you're gonna fry anything, for the love of God you MUST fry some pickles.

deep fried candy bars are my most favorite thing in this world ( i eat at least 1 every october)....whats funny is when u think about it they are long, warm, and full of squirt.....trend of things i like i reckon

here's the report:

White Castle: Melted away in the first try, then did it again with a thinner batter but my stomach was destroyed already and couldn't handle it

PB&J sandwiches: Sort of the same as above. batter took over the bread.

Marshmallows: First few melted so did it quicker on a second go. Tasted really good.

Twix bars: Wonderful chocolate goodness

Jalapenos stuffed with cheese: super hot but tasty

Cheese sticks: pretty standard.

Bananas: yummy snack.


After the few hours that we did this my stomach felt kind of strange and I didn't eat again for over 12 hours.

I will suggest chicken fingers. Be sure to shake them in sauce afterward.

Fresh mozzarella cut into thick slices then put in a beer batter

carrots, broccoli, green beans, onions and even though I hate these, white mushroom caps - all in the same beer batter (for the veggies, put some paprika in the batter).

Finish it off with some molson export and call me over.
