So, I saw this story about a Brazilian model who had her hands and feet amputated, along with both kidneys and part of her stomach.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/01/23/model.bridi.amputated.brazil/index.html
I think at that point, or probably a little earlier, I would have called it a life. Of course, it’s tough to say without being in that situation, but I don’t have any kids or wife to worry about yet.
How far would you go to stay alive? Fight to the last breath or die with dignity?

Hmm for me it would come down to the burden I'd be on my family. No matter how bad it got, I'd fight to live moreso for my family than for myself.

I remember reading a story about this beautiful 17-year old girl who got horribly burned after a car fire resulting from a drunk driver. They show her before and after pictures on this anti-drunk driving ad awhile ago... she lost some family in the wreck too... i forget the %'s but it was extensive burning... so far she's been fighting to stay alive... I guess it comes down to who the person is and what they get out of life.
ANC, living for your family is a noble idea and one that I prescribe to myself.

That Brazilian model died. Sometimes it doesnt matter "how far you go" to live. These doctors seem extremely inept though.

It's a sad story, but I can't envision going to such extraordinary lengths to prolong one's life. If you're willing to give up any semblance of normalcy and being able to truly live I think it just shows an overwhelming fear of death rather than an indomitable will to live.

Yeah I just saw that too. Too bad she had to suffer so bad just to die in the end. I hope she was so drugged up she didn't know what was going on.

i never saw a story that said she agreed to each step.
In most cases isn't it the doctor comes out, speaks to the family "its spreading, so we'll have to do ______" and the family agrees.
I told my parents that i dont want to live if my quality of life will be greatly reduced, i can barely stand things how they are now.

i think it's a bit shallow to think this is too extreme. in my opinion. we should go find steven hawking and put him out of his misery because he's obviously not living a full life.

How can you say such a thing? You're a heartless man.

I didn't say anyone should be euthanized. I merely said going to such lengths to prolong life seems to me to be more of an indication of fear of death rather than love of life.
Maybe Stephen Hawking is absolutely terrified of death. Who knows?

Here's my original post, in its entirety...completely unedited.

And it's not just the hands and feet; she had both kidneys removed and a portion of her stomach. This meant she'd have to live on machines for the rest of her life.

changing a font or bolding = editing, silly.

About the brazilian model, she's a woman who put everything she had into her looks. If she was without her hands and feet, she may have been suicidal.
I do think the doctors were inept as well.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.
If I have a broken leg or arm, I'll keep on keepin' on. Both? Sweet release of death.
Head cold PLUS broken limb? Call Dr. Kervorkian.
Cancer of the hair? OK. Anything else? Death.
If I saw a particularly bad movie AND had a paper cut, I might consider ending the suffering.
Everyone's got their threshhold. Mine just happens to be low.

These aint one of those would you suck a dick kind of situations, where like a guy has a gun in your month and for some reason the dude is always kinda gay and sez some queer shit like "if you don't suck my dick im gonna blow your brains all over the floor" cuz if its one of those i'd rather die, i lived a great life but nothing worth sucking a dick over. Think about it, if you did suck said dick and lived how dumb/gay would you feel on a bad day or if you got diaherra that shit aint cool, but i digress that sucks for the model being that her income was dependent on her looks, worse comes to worse she could be a bowling pin, with all the limbs missing id wanna know if she got depressed how she would go about offing herself, she could roll onto on coming traffic i guess. On a postive note good for her for wanting to live so badly.

meh, living is overrated.
But, I'd probably trample a few infants to stay alive.

Dude, that was the worst, most depressing thing i had ever seen in my life. The was a beautiful chick, then she had no fucking eye lids and her mom had to put drops in her eyes every hour so they wouldnt dry out. She didnt even have hands, they were just burnt stumps so she couldnt even kill herself. Thanks for reminding me.
