I was reading recently that companies have found it cheaper to go to a 4 day x 10 hour work week. With day 5 being for overtime.
When I worked EMS in Jersey..we worked 3 x 12 hour shifts and 4 hours at a desk..rest of the week was overtime. I liked it because I could work another job or go to school.
What would be your preferred work week?

4x10 would be nice but my co would never go for it. I could work from home most days but they won't go for that either. Stick in the muds.

I work 5 / however long it takes to finish... anywhere from 7-12 hours.... busy season 6 days a week.
I'd kill for 4/10.
Work stinks.

12 days on 2 days off.
how its been here for a little bit.
Noon to three, Monday through Friday.
I'd even work a few extra hours on a weekend here and there.
Must be nice.

4 days 10 hours each gives me a 3 day weekend naturally. So, I could stop using my vacation and sick time to have them.

best alternative schedule for a job I had was working as a well operator for Imperial Oil.....9 days on, 5 days off and 9 hrs/day...usually ended up working around 12 hours a day which made for some nice OT cheques
if I had to change to something different now I'd go to the 4/3 mix

I work my guys four ten hour days, and then on Friday morning I hand them a crisp five-dollar bill, which I assume they then buy tacos and Coronas with.

All it took was a delicate mixture of fascism and racism? Let's do it!

I used to work at a place where we did 9hrs Mon-Thurs and 4 hrs on Fri.We started at 7 so everyone had Fri after 11 to go to the bank or the dentist or what the fuck ever their excuse was for missing half a day.It was pretty nice being able to start drinking before noon on Fridays.

i used to work 9 hour days
5 on 2 off then 4 on 3 off
I would love to work 4 days of 10 hour shifts. Unfortunately that won't work plus I generally work 5 days of 10 hours anyways..............

What's with only the 40 hour options? Why assume everyone is on hourly pay? The second you make the ol salary or go on a commission program, you can kiss 40 good fuckin bye. I'm on full commission so I work from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm or later 5 days a week and from 7:30 am to noon every other Saturday. That's an average of somehwere around 50 hours a week. That's about a 50 hour/week average.
That said, out of the options provided I'd like the 4 days of 10 hours.

i voted for the 5 day 9 to 5
at a former job i did the 4 -10s but it almost killed me
sure at first the 3 days off were great, but after awhile it started to wear on me and all i was doing those 3 days was sleeping and resting from being exhausted, now also a lot of times it wasnt just 10 hrs, most times it was 11 or 12 just to get the job done

I'd love to work the 4x10 workweek, but it's too difficult with deadlines and such. all the non-architectural staff in my office has flex hours, and none of them works on Friday. It's just me and the boss in the office on Fridays. woo hoo. :annoyed:
