the last time i saw anyone on my mothers side of the family was when my mother died on 09-07-06....well at the funeral on 09-11-06. My grandmother has asked about me and my family, and my father keeps telling me i need to get over there and see her..... but to be honest after my mother died, i kind of don't feel as connected to them anymore. i love my nanny (thats what we called her), but i just can't bring myself to go see her. Does this make me a bad person?

On my mom's side; my grandfather died a couple years ago, now my grandmother died a bit over a year ago. They had 4 kids, all are alive but I only acknowledge my mom and an aunt that lives in Colorado. The other 2 are dead to me.

my mother's side of the family moved down to GA 25 years ago, and since my grandmother died, 5 years ago, I haven't been down there. I still send the birthday and x-mas cards down there, along with the occasional phone call, but I know its my mom that keeps that connection going.
my nephews and niece really know nothing of them, so one day that connection will be gone.

No, not at all. It doesn't sound like you have any problems with her, so maybe seeing her will remind you of your mother's death. I'm sure your grandmother would understand that and would love to see you.

Don't feel trapped because some time has passed. It doesn't matter.

I never see anyone on my father's side of the family since he passed. I miss a lot of them too. But what can you do?

Weddings and funerals - that's the only time I see my extended family. They're all New Jersey Guidos and Guidettes so when they see me and my family they think we're the oddballs. Fuck them and their spray-on tans.
