awesome. I thought NJ's trade was worrying about cancer - no real hurricanes, tornadoes or quakes.

It's all over Jersey.

Suck it.

Glad I moved.

i don't think you are taking away... but here in NJ we are not used to getting earthquakes.
it's the norm out in CA... not so much here.

My brother & I live in Denville, about 2 blocks up behind the train station. When this was happening (it seemed to last all of 10 seconds), it sounded like someone moving a large piece of furniture across the floor upstairs.

Then when I felt the ground rumble just a little and realized it wasn't coming from upstairs, added to the sound it was making, I thought for a second that maybe the train had derailed. Not to be a Doomsday-er, but even as close as we are to the station we rarely hear the trains as they come & go.

Once it stopped & we saw no emergency activity down by the station out of our front window, we both kinda shrugged our shoulders & didn't think much of it. Then our sister (who's about 2 miles away at our parents' house) sent a text & asked "did you guys feel that?" She just came back from a few weeks visiting friends in California & her first thought was quake. And it didn't take long to find a story to confirm it on the net.

Crazy shit for Jersey.

Google Maps - location of Jersey Mini-quake (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=40.8697+-74.5222(M3.0+-+GREATER+NEW+YORK+AREA%2C+NEW+JERSEY+-+2009+February+03++03%3A34%3A19+UTC)&ll=40.8697,-74.5222&spn=2,2&f=d&t=h&hl=e)

I have heard of them in Jersey almost once a year maybe every other since I moved here.
They are very small but common.
In Cali they are absolutely more expected.
These are the regions they are common in NJ

2003 was one of the last larger ones with 3.8

When I heard about this on the radio this morning, the first thing I thought of was the Ramapo Fault.

The second thing I thought of was how big of a deal it was when we had one in my hometown ... 23 years ago. Yes, I was in the 2nd grade the last time it was a big deal. And I'd slept right through it.

I am not buying it. I think they are testing some sort of earthquake device at the arsenal over there.

I didn't think they did anything other than host weddings at the Picatinny Arsenal.

That is what they want you to think. Haven't we learned anything from the X-files?

(Seriously, they do some R&D for urban assault weapons there)

Haha, ya I totally bailed. I fell asleep after Flea's CBS performance lulled me. Thanks for calling me out though, you're quickly becoming my favorite poster. :bye:

We're on a very inactive fault line. We get little tremors here and there, it's no big deal really.

I didn't even notice it and I'm pretty close to the epicenter.

I'm heading for the hills. Good thing I was going there anyway.

But the hills are where the quake took place, silly.
