Now, we have a few go-to bars that we have for planning events, but it's always good to have a few more. Does anyone have any recommendations? The necessary criteria are:
1. Must be in Manhattan.
2. Must not be too crowded on weekends.
3. Must not be too expensive. If they might be willing to give us drink specials, that would be a plus as well.
4. Spaced out so that a group of people can hang out. Many tables with little place to stand doesn't work all that well.
An area out front conducive to smoking is also a plus -- so is the ability to order food. If you have contacts with the owners or staff, that would be good to know as well.

I was about to recommend Rathbones, but it doesn't fit one or two of these. I think you're familiar with it.
There's an irish pub next to a bodega on the SE corner of 88th and second. Can't remember the name but I knew the guys from a similar place on Lexington and 29th. Too Cute knows the owners, I think. Maybe a little on the small side but they took over the store next to it to create more room. I think they would do drink specials as my fourth round was always free.
Went to a party a few weeks back at The G2 Lounge (http://www.gaslightnyc.com/)
On 14th Street, good amount of space, it was a $40 at the door open bar deal, not sure about the food situation though.

Whiskey River on 2nd and 32nd I believe is the cross street. I had fun time when I went there. It was a Friday night and wasn't too crowded but I don't go there often enough to guarantee that. It wasn't that expensive. I don't know if its big enough for our crowd, I'd say it was comparable to the Crow's Nest.
Peter Dillon's on 40th and Lex is never crowded and a good size.
Definitely look into Blackstones Pub on 2nd and 55th. They have a big room in the back that can easily fit our crowd, the drinks at the bar weren't expensive and it was pretty laid back crowd. I haven't been there on a weekend night but like I said, it has a back room for parties. No idea what kind of specials they have but you should check this place out for sure. I think it would work.

I would recommend the "Peculier Pub" (Bleeker and Lafayette I believe)...domestics beers rarely over $4.50 as they VERY frequently have specials. They have a TON of selections. Nice amount of space for get togethers. Good standing room, sitting room, etc. Food selection, and I am sure they will be willing to give us some sort of drink specials. I would honestly say the place can hold more people than Slaughtered Lamb, of which there have been a few events at in the past.
Here is a sampling of their beer menu:

Whats the matter?? You afraid to throw an elbow or two to assert our dominance in that place and chase people out?? I'm in for that...

I like the look of ANC's as well, and have drank at Doogie's Pub on Bleeker too. It does have an AMAZING selection of beer, BUT it's usually overpacked and I really don't think it'd fit our crowd so well. I could be wrong though. Sorry Doog, it gets elbow to elbow in there often, even if it is across from the elbow room! See what I did there. Hacked it up!

See, even Jersey Rich agrees! Sorry, I didn't get there yet.
As for other ideas, how about The Park!? The place is huge and there's multiple rooms to stake our claim if we so choose. It also has a rooftop bar, which is something I think adds to the whole city experience, especially those coming in for said event. I've been to a few and it's always just an easy going time, and some allow smoking for you fools out there in sections.
Here's the site for The Park and a rundown on some other rooftop bars in NYC. Anyone have any info on these, or any others.

The Copper Door Tavern (http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/41331231)
272 3rd Ave; Between 21st Street and 22nd Street
A decent size for our crowd (just a regular party - not Xmas size).
Wharf Bar & Grill (http://newyork.citysearch.com/profile/45600451)
587 Third Ave; Between 38th Street and 39th Street
This place has a large back deck (covered in winter) that could accommodate us.
And there is my old bar in Hoboken which is now called Northern Soul (http://www.northernsoulbar.com/).
That was a good size too, for those who remember. It's much nicer and has a better beer selection as well.
I know the owners at all three bars and could probably set up a party with drink specials (I know I definitely could at Northern Soul).

If we learn anything from this thread, it's time to try out some more places/expand. I for one liked checking out Blondies and other new places of late.
There is so much out there, to me checking out new places is part of the fun too.

The Mean Fiddler is great as well. Walking distance from port authority/Penn. More of a club atmosphere. Really big so can handle a crowd well. They will do specials if you get enough people. http://www.themeanfiddlernyc.com/

I like the sound of this idea. Do you have a general idea when you would like to try and launch this?? I say we try and do it as the weather starts to get nice, but not too nice yet. Like late March/Early April.

Slattery's Midtown Pub (http://slatterysmidtownpub.com)on 36th bet. 5th and Madison. I am pretty close with the owners.(Across from the Galway Hooker and the Gingerman). Not too crowded on weekends. It's more of a happy hour bar.
I looked for a link and I found this little gem:laugh::

I went in there with another English friend recently, it was full of very Republican anti-British Irishman and the barman was equally offensive and asked us to leave after one drink - this is a throwback to the IRA days.
