Damn. I was just driving by what used to be the Napa State hospital, telling my wife how the Cramps somehow played a show there years ago which was attended by the patients. Supposedly the movie of it is a hoot.

I didn't know he was that old, either but it makes sense. I saw them play back in 1980 when I was 14 and just realized that was 29 years ago!!!

I was running a record store when A Date When Elvis was released. One Saturday afternoon, I had the album cranked when an elderly couple walked in the store. They had to be in their late 70's/early 80's, and they spent a time going through the used country vinyl section. After typical songs like "Can Your Pussy Do the Dog", the album concludes with "It's Just That Song", a ballad where Lux croons like on an old Elvis song. The couple come up to the counter and ask what was being played. I showed them the album, and as they looked it over I warned them that the band was pretty wild. I played that track again, and they both raved about his voice, and they eventually bought it! I would have loved to be at their home when their children and/or grandchildren discovered the album sitting in between their Ray Conniff and Porter Waggoner records.

The Cramps played Baltimore like 6 times the month their 1st (or was it their 2nd?) 45 came out. I remember coming home after one of their shows, I was tripping and as I laid there in the total darkness, trying to go to sleep, I turned my head and saw the glowing litebulb & logo on the "Human Fly" picture sleeve 45... I debated tearing my eyes out cuz the image was burning straight into my brain... then I fell asleep.
I will always LOVE The Cramps!!!

R.I.P. Lux!!!

That's a really great story! You should send it to the family and/or band members.
