I started this thread due there being no room to praise Ant in the other "Ant" thread.
I can only hope that this can be a place for people that have enjoyed Anthony and still do.
I hope I can say I like Ant in here without being preached to about social ills.

If it weren't for Opie and Anthony, I would not have found Ron and Fez therefore I would not have been typing this.

On the Show, Opie has always been the consummate Radio professional...and Ant has been Ant.

The only changes I have seen in Anthony over the years is whether he is Single or with a mate. These two Anthony's are different people, as it would be with anyone.
Maybe when he is shacked up he is less irritable and has less time to watch the news, who knows. But being a listener since WNEW I learned he liked doing things alone (i.e.models, computers, radio controlled gadgets). So when he is alone, he likes his toys..they are just bigger now.

Anthony is honest, has opinions and has a job that allows him to be himself...just himself.

I enjoy Anthony still as much, if not more today than the first day I heard him.
He isn't a Politician, he isn't a policy maker... he is himself on the radio, and I like him.

What's funny is he seemingly took the same path as Howard in some ways. Sure I've always been a bigger fan of Ant, but money has influenced their lives and their approach to the show a lot more than say Opie. I've always been a big supporter of Opie, bc he's NEVER changed and money hasn't influenced him in the same way.

I do love how Ant still hangs with fans, comes to R/F events (Opie too of late) and so many other things. Now if only I could get on a poker table with him and Kevin Smith, bc I'd love to take some of their scrap change!

Overall, I disagree with Ant a TON, but I'm a fan and glad he doesn't pull punches. I'll always be thankful O and A have always looked out for our boys Ron and Fez.

Here's to many many more years of these two shows being in and on in the NYC area!

If you want to get a real read on how people feel about the show, ask them about the Halloween party last year. See how much love they got. I heard it was a whopping 75 people, that showed. I have more people at my house for a football game and I don't even have a radio show.

You know Fred you can sit there and answer people's comments with silly stupid ass jokes, but what it really comes back to is all you really have to say is that you like Anthony and the rest of us are a bunch of dumb asses.

I have heard you on Ron and Fez countless times not getting the point to things, and I have wondered is this guy just not getting it or is he being this way for the the attention.It's a coin toss most days but I think in this situation you just want some attention.

As consumers are allowed to be angry, or upset and are allowed express our displeasure when a product that we pay for is slipping, has gone bad, or just isn't cutting it.

Anthony has changed more then just being without a companion. He is plain mean, racist, and constantly tries to show his intelligence by through out words he has no clue about. He is using his microphone as a weapon.

His constant talk of money, women, and guns isn't the bit that it once was. It has become who he is. To be honest I don't even know if even Anthony sees what has become of himself, and the sad thing about this is that it makes him an ineffective partner for Opie.

Opie has this wonderful positive energy about him now. I love Opie, and feel horrible for him because he has to work with such an ass. Perhaps this explains why they HAVE to have a 3rd mic now when Jimmy leaves, or that Sam, Danny, and Erock have become more on air lately.

If you care so much about the show, then maybe you should care for the whole thing instead of the guy you relate to the most.

There's a difference between outright bashing and criticism. Maybe my take on it is unique, and only mine, but I listen to comedy to laugh and have a good time. Even at the expense of others. But true comedy at others expense does let them out of the barrel eventually.

That's the true nature of comedy. Because you say things and exaggerate, and go over the top and use words and phrases that cut. But there's always a wink and a smile at the end. Because the nature of it all is to have a good time and laugh.

The constant being pissed off and mad and angry, especially in the morning gets old. I want to have a good time and laugh. I can live life, go outside in the shit we call the world and be mad. I can get back into politics and be mad. I don't need anger in my comedy all the time.

Contrast that with Ron and Fez. They do after shows, and Sunday shows, and midnight shows, and tape extra shows. They have a good time. Count the days they seem angry and want to get off the clock as soon as possible and seem like they don't really want to be there counting the minutes til they fulfill their quota.

In the end The way I see it is I want to have a good time. And I like listening when it's fun to listen and participate with other fans. The loud pseudo political nonsense bores me. It's Mancow-esque. I get tired of being talked down to like I'm out of line with education and reality.

Stop lecturing to me and make me laugh. I have a degree in political science already and listened to far too many pompous asses lecturing to me to get that degree. Last thing I feel like doing is listening to that on a "comedy" show.

I believe this clip was played on O&A in December 2008 or so. I don't remember much more, but maybe it can be tracked down and pulled from one of the O&A message boards by using a show log or listening thread and then trying to track it down from there through Audible or Foundry.

Why would anyone with something positive to say about Ant post here? Look at the attacks on me for liking the guy. I only posted this thread in response to the other thread. If this is a we hate Anthony board in general, I did not know that. Did I graffiti a tag of some kind and deserve retaliation?
The reason I posted at all is because I committed to lower my verbal opinions, and I have been participating in the board more since. Actually a thread about me was started and I posted for the first time in a year and more followed.
If this isn't the place for me to be involved...let me know. I will know I sincerely tried, and that is all I care about. Why would I continue being involved somewhere if I am gonna get attacked every time I sign on? If I don't continue here at least I know an opposing thread to the other one will always remain. Because I truly enjoy the guy, enough to commit myself to listening and subscribing (like most of you do) most days, I can't post my opinions?
As far as social ills, I know my opinions aren't "The Norm" here and have kept them to a minimum. Politics and poverty, we can talk in person..I can not type the emotions I feel on both subjects, so I won't.

Anthony locked himself up. He married a woman he didn't love, he lived a lie for 9 years. She didn't trap him into marrying. I have said this before, but Anthony got married for the same reason single women in their 40's take up pottery. He used marriage as a self help tool to grow up, or find himself or whatever the fuck. His whole marriage was a sham because it was based on a selfish belief that if I get married I will feel grown up. He also "faked" trying to have kids with her... I believe he made this up for shock value. So I don't feel one bit sorry for him or the money he has lost over him being locked up.

He then cheated with her (with Melinda I believe) and settled down once again by his own choice. He was with Melinda for 7 years again his choice.

Then he started dating Jill and started the whole damn thing over again.

Fred, Anthony has caused his own misery so I can't really feel sympathetic when at the end of all that shit, he tops it off by being a mean, racist, bragger, in the throws of a midlife crisis.

I never would have married someone I didn't love. I won't put another person through the pain and indignity of being part of my self improvement. I would never let down my partner at work because of my current lifestyle choices, and I would never use a high profile job to spread hate, just because my daddy didn't like black people.

Why would anyone with something positive to say about Ant post here? Look at the attacks on me for liking the guy. I only posted this thread in response to the other thread. If this is a we hate Anthony board in general, I did not know that. Did I graffiti a tag of some kind and deserve retaliation?
The reason I posted at all is because I committed to lower my verbal opinions, and I have been participating in the board more since. Actually a thread about me was started and I posted for the first time in a year and more followed.
If this isn't the place for me to be involved...let me know. I will know I sincerely tried, and that is all I care about. Why would I continue being involved somewhere if I am gonna get attacked every time I sign on? If I don't continue here at least I know an opposing thread to the other one will always remain. As far as social ills, I know my opinions aren't "The Norm" here and have kept them to a minimum. Politics and poverty, we can talk in person..I can not type the emotions I feel on both subjects, so I won't.

Despite my apparently false perception that Fred may have been the one calling O&A to bash them in 1998, I also love Ant on the air overall and always have since the beginning of WNEW.

I do think, however, that he goes overboard with the black/white and Obama stuff, in terms of not seeming willing to see things from others' viewpoints or place of experience. Also, we get the fact that Ant is super-rich. No need to be hit over the head with it (the Escalade...the Escalade...in-home movie theater...etc....etc.).

I will say that I ran into Anthony out one night (completely by chance) back in the WNEW days, along with Melinda, and they both could not have been nicer or more engaging. And I don't see any evidence that that essential quality has changed, even if he gets carried away sometimes.

Also remember the quality of life that Anthony had before radio and his childhood instability, and one might understand more, even though I agree that he can be irritating with this stuff at times.

I said it int he other thread - Anthony is one of the funniest guys on radio. He also seems like a really decent guy, I met him at Jimmy's book signing in Detroit. He often makes me laugh out loud and many times I'm forced to sit in the car and listen to an entire riff, rather than get out and do my job.

BUT...there are still times that I have to switch to 175 or 130 when the gun shit and the Obama bashing goes over the top. Which has happened alot since the election.

If you don't like what you hear switch the dial.

I DO wish the Ron and Fez replays were on earlier instead of two O and A repeats. I rarely listen twice and never all three. But because I am in and out of my car I miss portions of both shows. Having R&F on earlier than midnight would be terrific

Great ratings in NYC :tongue: They're unknown outside of the northeast. I wouldn't expect them to stay on terrestrial radio after their contract is up unless they take a massive pay cut - if they even come back at all.
