View Full Version : Pizza Bagel Burn

One thing that always stood out to me about those little pizza bagels is that no other food seemed hotter when it was done being cooked. Those little fuckers seemed like they were 10,000 degrees when they came out of the oven or toaster, for whatever reason.
I don't know how many times I severely burned the roof of my mouth trying to shove those down my blubbery throat. The other thing is that you had a window of like 3 minutes before they turned the other way and got all cold and hard and gnarly.
Any other foods you can think of that really brought on the burn?

Good call on the hot pockets, although I think I had these a grand total of twice in my entire life.
Another one is any sort of hot soup from a crock, which is always way too hot. Although I guess that's what I get for eating public soup.

I think that these are worse than Hot Pockets because they're bite sized. I can't tell you how many of these little fuckers I've popped over the years only to have them spurt their molten lava into my mouth. You'd think I'd learn my lesson, but if I had a plate in front of me right now I'd probably do the same fucking thing.

I think this all falls under the category of "Microwaved Cheese".

I made crock pot chicken noodle soup tonight. I filled up one of those Ziplock brand tupperware type containers with it, drove to work in a cold car, and 15 minutes later it was still almost too hot to eat.

Other than the crock all this other shit is gross.
When I make chili it is either too hot or luke warm, never the right temp. Although either way you are heading to the bathroom within 3 hours. Damn, I need to make a pot of chili.

Shepherd's pie... especially if the ground beef or lamb wasn't drained really well. The grease forms an unseen layer of molten animal fat under the potatoes and just above the meat & veggies.
You have to mix it up for a while to cool it (after eating the layer of crusty spuds from the top).
A quick diagram:

Masterful point, Joe.
The meat gets hot enough, but that extra fat layer seems at least 100 degrees hotter, esp. if you make the mistake of just trying to eat a forkful in its original unmixed form.

Pizza Palate
What Is It?
Your pizza arrives, you're hungry and it smells so good. You take out that first piece, dripping with cheese, take a big bite…and burn the roof of your mouth. Now you have pizza palate.
Other hot foods and liquids can also burn the roof of your mouth (palate), but these types of burns have come to be called "pizza palate" because it is most commonly caused by pizza.
These burns usually are minor and heal within a few days.
Symptoms
The roof of your mouth will be tender and, in some cases, it will blister. You will probably feel a raw, "raised" sensation in the affected area.
Diagnosis
This is pretty simple — have you eaten hot pizza overly hot food or liquid in the last few days? Does the roof of your mouth hurt?
Your dentist will notice that the roof of your mouth is reddened and possibly blistered. Whitish areas may appear as the tissue heals.
Expected Duration
Thermal burns usually heal in five to 10 days, depending on severity.
Prevention
Make sure your food or drink isn't too hot before you take a bite or a sip. Be especially careful with food or liquids heated in a microwave because they may be hotter than your expect.
Treatment
The condition should improve over the course of a week, often sooner. Stick to soft foods and cool liquids; avoid hard, crusty foods that can further irritate your mouth. And stay away from hot pizza!
Warm salt water rinses (1/8 of a teaspoon in 8 ounces of water) after meals will help keep the area clean. Topical anesthetics may relieve pain from eating in severe cases.
When To Call A Professional
If the soreness and blistering persist beyond 10 days, call your dentist.
Prognosis
Excellent, if wounds are cared for properly.

Totinos are by far my favorite frozen food snack. You gotta bit the corner and release the thermonuclear steam before you even attempt to eat them.

This happens every time I go home to New Haven. The pain is exquisite.

It has something to do with bagels. When I take a piece of toast out of the toaster, I'll grab and spread desired condiment. When a bagel comes out of the toaster, I can't hold the fucking thing.
And chicken pot pies.

For me it's Dunkin Donuts coffee. I drink coffee black and that stuff comes out boiling. In those cups of there I can have it sitting for 30 minutes before touching it. I ask them to put 4 or 5 ice cubes in when I order now.
